I think it may be country-related. I'm in the UK and don't get any, but I think US-based users do get them.
How have you managed that?

Im in the UK and although a constant game of whack-a-mole with amazon releasing new categories weekly.... (that you have to turn off)...
... all my echo shows now force 'sponsored content' - ruins the experience and ive got rid of all but the show 15 as a result.

Amazon listening devices is no different than Apple with Siri. I have not seen adds in my browsing or on Amazon that come close to being about anything Alexa would over hear me talking about. So if it is doing that it is doing a really poor job. I am fully ok with people not wanting a device listening in on them in their house, but think if you really are against it do you have an old dumb flip phone as well or do people believe that somehow Apple is better than amazon?

A lot of AI news today. Hopefully, Apple is ready to bring it at WWDC in June.
It wasn't able to release its new AI around the world, not even it's brand new SIRI to the US. I would not expect that much in WWDC... Maybe they'll announce sth for the future, that was Apple has being done lately.

I just went through menus and disabled anything that looked like it might add unwanted content to my screen. Not sure what the crucial toggle/s are. I do still occasionally get Alexa suggest notifications where it promotes some Alexa/echo feature (e.g. did you know you can say X to accomplish Y?). I can't seem to disable these, altough I don't consider those to be adverts per se. I certainly don't get any sponsored content or ads for goods or services.

My largest echo show is one of the early 7 or 8" ones so quite old. My only other ones are the 5" ones (and probably not the latest generation). Perhaps there is some variation between models and generations which explain differing experiences.

Yeah that's about it. All I do with Siri is set timers and reminders. And I do a lot of dictation too but that is not Siri.

Siri is dumb compared to other services. You can see it when someone else like the neighbors kids try to use it like they use Alexa at their home, and the only response is "I can forward the results to your phone". No you dumb idiot I just want you to tell us what the kids asked you. Or when friends tell me that they have iPhones but they use Alexa or Google Assistant and when I ask why they tell me all the things they can do. LOL! Let's face it Siri is dumb, otherwise Apple would not have introduced shortcuts. And Apple Home is even dumber. The two combined are crap and I have given up my hope that they will ever be as good as ChatGPT or any other service.
The thing is that's all I want to do with Siri or any digital assistant. I’ve seen the demos and they were cool, but I never need to do those things.

maybe

I too have toggled everything off.

However there is no escaping 'sponsored content' - not for me anyway.

Maybe, who knows, there is so much backlash to Amazon and it will impact sales of screen-based Echo devices that they may reverse the decision.

I disconnected our Alexa device in the kitchen and replaced it with Nest Audio last week.

I used to be employed by Alexa to teach devs how to make Alexa skills, even managed the Alexa Champions program, and got to see the sausage being made. But it didn't get bad enough until recently. Alexa seemed to get dumber and dumber over the past few years. Plus we switched our family plan from Apple Music to YouTube Premium with YouTube Music for our boys (who have and prefer Android phones), and it's hard to connect YouTube Music to Alexa with the same ease as Apple Music or Spotify.

This will not convince me to re-enable my Alexa devices. Too little, too late.
