Good to see discount for the newly released AirPods Pro 2 with USB C charging case.

Best Buy has the same $199 deal and will take old AirPods as trade in. They gave me $40 for my old gen 1 AirPods Pro. That brought it down to $159. Which seemed pretty reasonable.

Bah. What were these, released like 90 days after the lightning version?? Very frustrating.

Edit: I see it was a year later… how time flies.

Bit the bullet and got these. Hoping for improvements to connectivity over the 1st 2nd gen.

Not really.
If you paid $199 for the APP2 lightning, then you’re now paying an additional $159 even with trade in so that’s still $358 total spent just because you want the USB-C version.

It won’t matter that the newer one has the upgraded chip for the Vision Pro visor if you don’t plan to buy the visor.
Also doesn’t matter paying extra if you own a pre iPhone 15 model which still uses the lightning cable.

If you have the extra money, it’s your choice to upgrade.
Maybe try using the warranty option to see if one can just buy the upgraded USB-C case itself.

Some bedtime reading for testy individuals:

Users without prodigious hearing need not apply.

I upgraded from 1st Gen. AP Pro to the new USB-C version. Notably better depth of sound (I think); although the prior were good enough for me (mostly news/audio). I will say a simplu solution to power sufficiently for a full transatlantic or transcon flight, might be to charge the case (while watching movies) as a lot of newer airplanes have USB C (or an adapter). I got tired of carrying 'big cans' on long trips. And yes, the muting of conversation and then restoration after you quiet down, is terrific and if one is in constant noisy areas, that feature is a simple choice in settings.

I won't be surprised at all when Apple enables "lossless" BT streaming aside from just the Vision Pro on the USB-C version at some point. There is $$$ to be made touting this feature which will cause people to "upgrade".

By that point gen 3 will be out or almost out and we can spend our money on a real upgrade.

Apple has already put themselves in a hole by differentiating features by the type of case you have. Which absolutely no one will understand. It’d be a product marketing nightmare if they differentiated even further.

I do have a 15 Pro. And I didn't have the APP2. I had older gen 1 as I stated in my post. So I got better AirPods and a USB-C case. Which I found worth $159. Of course, your mileage may vary. My point actually was that Best Buy will take trade-ins, which makes it a better deal than vendors who don't.

It’s tempting, but my 1st gen AirPods are still working great and I’m not sure the upgrade is worth it at this point. I think I’ll be a little more careful with my money and stick with what I have.

Best I can find in the UK is £209 from John Lewis… ☹️. I want to upgrade my first gen, even though they were both replaced under the recall programme, I have terrible trouble with them cutting out on a call. They quite often give up altogether…

Has anybody have experience with Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD (currently on sale in EU) paired with iPad/iPhone as a media backup SSD?
I have a good exp. with Samsung T7, and terrible one with Sandisk Extreme and don’t want to gamble again.

Pro tip: If you want to save even more, the Amazon Warehouse deal for "Used - Acceptable" AirPods Pro 2 for $149 is a great deal. I bought them for $150 back in May and they were basically like new in the original box, outside of a little scuff on the back of the charging case (they scratch so easily anyways - who cares?). Included all the ear tips and didn't look like they had been used at all.

They do ship with an old firmware, so make sure to update them to take advantage of the new iOS 17 features.
