Update: I arrive on the 512GB model when clicking. I thought indeed that the price was a bit low.

I immediately thought “bs this won’t work. Prove him wrong”. I thought there would be no way the 2yr Citi card would stack to it... but it does (from their site):Yeah. First 3 with apple care+, year 4 through costco, year 5&6 through Costco Citicard.

He said that "out of the box there was a deep scratch" - so I took him at his word. If that was the case, that would be a "manufacturing defect" covered by warranty. He also indicated that the Apple rep said Apple would not cover it because it was not purchased at Apple (NOT because they didn't believe him) - and that statement is 100%, unequivocally false. The Apple warranty applies to all new products exactly the same, regardless of where they were purchased. Now, if there is a dispute about whether the OP was being honest, that's a different story.Hard to argue with Apple that a scratch is a defect. They have no way of knowing when it happened. They goodwill a lot of things, that rep was probably right.
Irrelevant that you, me, or anyone here believes him. The rep gave a short hand explanation of goodwill extended to Apple customers purchasing from Apple. It sucks no doubt, but Apple isn’t a bad guy hereHe said that "out of the box there was a deep scratch" - so I took him at his word. Okay, you seem to misunderstand the basic concept of warranties. It is not "goodwill", it is required for the manufacturer to honor their warranty. And it is certainly relevant whether the defect is a manufacturer defect or customer damage. How can you not get that?Irrelevant that you, me, or anyone here believes him.
