Is anyone else getting Dolby digital from amazon prime now? I haven’t done extensive testing, but season 5 episode 1 of The Americans is showing up as Dolby digital, whereas the last episode of season 4 only streams in 2.1 stereo.

I’ve seen several articles that say the prime app only does 2.1 on the appleTV.

I’m using the Apple TV 4K, if it matters.

I just tested Spectre and it's playing in 5.1.

Didn't even realize they fixed it as I can't stand using that app. Lately, it feels like Amazon and YouTube are in a contest to see who can make the shi**iest tvOS app possible. o_O

I don't often use Prime, but yes, I've seen Dolby Digital working on my Apple TV 4K. Initially it didn't, but they fixed that at some point a few months ago.

It's not complete yet. Some content is 5.1 but a lot other stuff isn't yet.

They are working on getting their catalog phased into DD.

Where do you find such information? I did a google search and couldn’t find anything except older articles from December about how prime did not support 5.1 on the Apple TV.

Check this out. Personally my AVR was reporting 5.1 channels in some movies/TV shows since the first release of Amazon Prime. Still the article says that all UHD content is now using 5.1 channels (it should be DD+ 5.1 since that's what I get from the app on my Bravia TV) and as such they appear to me. The other days I was watching a Full HD movies (I think it was "Serenity") and the AVR showed 5.1 for that as well.

One example is the show "The Closer". I bought that on amazon a while ago and now I'm watching through all the seasons. When I watch the show on my TV-App (via ARC) or NVidia Shield the Sound is put out in DD 5.1. When I switch to the AppleTV 4K the sound is put out in Stereo. A lot of there Prime-Show already offer 5.1 with the AppleTV 4K but older shows are apparently still being changed over.

Seems odd that it would happen on a show by show basis, and that they would repeat it with out 5.1 audio in the first place. But what do I know?

6 months on it seems they still haven't fix this?

I recently purchased the ATV4K - its almost perfect if it wasn't for 2.0 sound on AmazonPrime and no 4k on youtube.

I have no idea how Amazon is managing to be so poor. iTunes free 4k upgrades vs Amazon HD only and no 5.1 on ATV4K... Makes no sense. Wish i built my video library through iTunes now.

Absolutely. In the future buddy, buy your films with relative confidence through iTunes - you know then that they'll have Dolby Atmos surround sound from this Autumn along with 4K Dolby Vision etc.
I was horrified when I read Amazon's small print regarding buying film from them. You can ONLY download your purchase a maximum time of TWICE! WHAT!!!!!!!!!! Their clauses were very very off-putting and there is no chance that i'd ever part with my money buying a download from them.

I don’t quite understand what Amazon are doing with their ATV app.

For example, Bosch is UHD, HDR and only 2 channel audio but on the Amazon app on my LG TV it is 5.1.

I don’t think they’re doing themselves any favours but then again, I don’t suppose they give a damn either.

Have the same issue, Some 5.1 programs come over Apple TV as 5.1 and some as 2.0 And the Apple TV description never says 5.1 but when I pull up the same program using my LGTV app it shows as 5.1 on the description and it is received as 5.1
