Has anyone ever seen any measurable performance difference between 32 and 64GB?
No performance difference that I’m aware of, however the 64GB model allows us to store more video on the device that we play with VLC. I vaguely recall others complaining of issues that we never experienced on our 64GB Apple TVs (Latest models).

I got the most recent ATV4k solely for the ARC feature for our HomePod (not mini) stereo pair. It’s a great, simple home theater setup.

So you ignore the warning signs and buy a device right before an update?

If the price and product are right, why not?

I mean is an A14 Bionic really going to be so much better than an A12 Bionic at launching a streaming app or playing a movie/tv show that it is worth spending upwards of 40% more for it?

I have a 2018 12.9" iPad Pro and was considering the M1 model due to the 25% discount Amazon was running on it even with the M2 model due literally any day. I know that the M2 is not going to be 25% faster than the M1 and considering all I use my iPad Pro for is media consumption the M1 is overkill. So why not save $300 for effectively equivalent performance and benefits (in my use case)?

I understand but a lower price point has been rumored to come to the Apple TV. It is even possible that a new Apple TV will start at the same price as this sale. If that were to happen, it would almost be like losing money.

Kind of.

I bought my son a watch SE 15 days before the keynote because he didn’t need the rumored features and the price was good.

Well, then Apple releases the new watch SE which started at a lower price, which means I barely saved any money for a year old watch.

Got the newer one for my wife.

So sometimes, these sales save nothing at all, and it seems somehow Amazon has spies who know this and it’s why they discount certain Apple products to a price mysteriously close to the new price of the next gen product…

Honest question. Aside from taking going on sale as a clue, why do people think a new one is coming? The last Apple TV 4K had a 3-year lifecycle. This one has barely been out for 1 year.

True, but I cannot believe Apple would cut the price so much. I mean they still sell the ancient HD model for $150.

At best, we might see this new one drop to $150 and the HD model be discontinued and, yes, at that price the new model would arguably be a better value then the current model at $110.

But I could also see Apple drop the current 4K to $150 to replace the HD model and keep the new one as an "Apple TV 4K Pro" or "Apple TV Arcade" at the current $180 or even go full cheeky and raise it to $200. And I don't see the new model being worth an extra $70-90 over the current.

Amazon is currently in its extended holiday return period so there is literally only upside in ordering. Worst case: everything you say happens and you return for refund or exchange it for the new model. I’d rather be safe than sorry since ATVs are rarely discounted this much.

Spock, let's use some logic here. The HD version of AppleTV still runs fine and it's 7+ years old.

Do you think a 'better' AppleTV 4k will be released in a month that is CHEAPER than $109 that streams movies and music? I don't know a soul that plays games on these things.

I bought one of these to replace my Apple TV hd, which is not very snappy anymore, can’t do spatial audio, and has a much maligned remote (I like it alright, the new one looks way better).

So you can all get ready for the new model any day now, and you’re welcome. 👍

I thought the old remote was ok but after using the newer one, I quickly realized the hold one is crap because I still have the HD Apple tv on another TV

Amazon does have an extended return policy going on from yesterday though Jan 31st, like someone mentioned.

However, it says you can return new, unopened items. I'm going to start using my new Apple TV 4k Friday. I suppose if you were an adventurous person you could still try to return the 4K if a new one is announced for $100 that you like better. Maybe someone can post here if they wind up doing that. I won't be trying it though.

Yes I rather think for myself and when a device meets my requirements at a acceptable price then I buy it.
Unlikely that the updated product will see the same discount as the current one.
