Amazon this week updated its Prime Video app for the Apple TV with several improvements.

According to The Verge, the app is now better optimized for the tvOS platform. You can now use the Siri Remote to swipe through TV shows and movies, and touchpad gestures for fast forwarding and rewinding content are now supported.

Suggested search results now appear as you type, and you can search with the Siri Remote.

The app now shows higher-resolution imagery, and there are new motion and sound effects.

Last, the app now supports the Apple accessibility features VoiceOver, Hover Text, and Bold Text.

All in all, the app now provides a more "native" experience on tvOS.

You can download the Prime Video app from the App Store for free, but you will need a Prime subscription to stream content. The latest version of the app is compatible with all Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD models.

Hopefully this fixes the various usability and language issues with the Prime App on Apple devices. Some issues with the old version:

1. English subtitles changes to close captioned English subtitles on their own for no apparent reason. This happens repeatedly after exiting the video and restarting later.
2. Language options for audio tracks are written in the original language. That's great for native speakers, but confusing for those of us who just want the original actors' voices for a foreign flick. If you can't read the language selections, you just have to choose by trial and error.
3. Language settings under the same account are not shared across devices.
4. When trying to skip forward or backwards, often the interface covers subtitles.
5. Sometimes when first restarting a video after it was previously paused, there are no subtitles at all. To get the subtitles to show up, you have to skip back. But then you get problem #1 too.

More Apple TV news... is something going on here...
What if all the Apple TV related news has to do with their new product announcement for next Wednesday?

The new product isn't the iPhone SE, M4 MacBook Air, or new AirTags, but a new Apple TV...

Maybe an Apple TV SE for those who want a basic streaming device with no internal storage for media purchases, something to compete against Roku devices, Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Google TV Streamer, etc. It'll be priced at $59.00 - $69.00

Did they fix search functionality? I never got expected results for regional titles. It outright says no results even when the title exists. I have to go through google search and click on it to go to prime on webpage and save it to view it from apple tv app.

That's good.

But more fundamental we need a better organised shows database. Prime has many shows, focusing on music, sports, and more, but finding the ones I like is always random.

"...touchpad gestures for fast forwarding and rewinding content are now supported"

This is great. The way you previously had to rewind / fast-forward was so tedious.

Haven’t tried it yet, but this app was trash.. trickplay was impossible of not even useless. It really turned me away from watching nearly ANYTHING on Prime due to how poor the app was.
I haven't used it for quite a while but just bought a Mission Impossible 6-film set on Amazon ($10 for HD) and fired up the app to see if it was there. The app doesn't even have a convenient way to view your library. If the only way is "Purchased", that view sucks, especially if you have a lot of movies (many of mine are from Movies Anywhere) and have to scroll, scroll, scroll to find something (not even alphabetical).

Been using it currently, it is working great for navigating content. I found it quite easy to use search to locate the prime content so other subscribed content wasn’t needing verification. Owned content showed correctly.

That's an interesting thought.

The thing (well one of the things) that drives me nuts about all these non-native TvOS video players in apps like Disney, Max, etc is that the sound modes for Reduce Loud Sounds and Enhance Dialogue are unavailable unless you fancy exiting the app and taking a trip into the Settings.

I tend to toggle these things quite a bit because I sometimes play audio out of HomePods (where I tend to use those features) and sometimes out of AirPods Max (where I leave them both off).

I wish Apple would put the audio mode controls up in the top menu somewhere so that even if you're stuck with a non-native TvOS player, you can still use the controls.

I was thinking the same thing. It has been way too long between update’s.
Might give me a reason to trade up for the new model.

Almost all major streaming apps updated their apps within the last 14 days.
