The replies thus far feels very reminiscent of the sentiment regarding the original Echo.

Minus the disastrous Fire phone, Amazon has nailed their intended demographic. Time will tell.

I have a Sony Dream Machine and a Sony Dash. This would be a perfect replacement device for my alarm clock. I have a feeling that Apple will come off flat-footed again at WWDC when they unveil their boring Siri Speaker clone device. Just like when they came off flat-footed releasing their touchbar MacBook Pro after Microsoft unveiled their Surface Studio.

What should apples product be?

- A mobile, communicator,
- a music player
- the internet in your pocket
- siri

Repeat and repeat.....

Are you getting it yet?

It's an iPhone!

One thing I like about Alexa is that it answers in audio so I can get weather and news updates in the morning while I go about getting dressed and ready for the day. I'm not sure if I want a screen that often for this. But that said, I recommend to everyone that they have one of these devices. And if I were to buy one new now, this is the one I would get. Heck, I may get it anyway just to play with it. I can always move my Echo Dot to another room and extend my Alexa coverage in my house.

Looks like the same function can be done with an iPad and a stand.

I think we should all buy a cheap iPad stand from amazon just to piss them off.

a tablet on a stand that can hear and now see everything you do and say. Im not a huge conspiracy guy, but wouldn't it be crazy if it was true?

Apple will outdo this product and i believe they will include a wifi basestation in it as well, i hope!

woah, that looks really terrible. Would be nice if this worked with WhatsApp instead of their own messaging system. I don't think any of my American friends or family would prefer this over facetime and I don't think any of my international friends would prefer this over whatsapp.

To those wondering what Apple can bring to this space, wonder no more.

It’s like Amazon is purposefully making ugly devices. This thing makes me gag. Hey Jony, show ‘em how it’s done.

Except this one is more functional and has a battery...

As much as I like Alexa more then Siri as a service, Amazon has kind of jumped the shark on home assistance. With recent announcements of a judgmental closet camera and Alexa powered lamp, I kind of feel this company lacks focus and just trying to throw out ideas and see what sticks.

Also, as a Canadian, I am fed up with the fact that companies like Amazon and Google are so US-centric and have not yet offered these devices to even the Canadian market. I 'smuggled' in my Amazon Echo and while it works well for a lot of things I still can't tell Alexa where I live and have it report weather or traffic properly and music and content integration is spotty at best. It's very annoying that Amazon is wasting so much money and R&D on vapid solutions like this rather then just focusing on making Amazon Echo a superlative AND global home assistant.

I might prefer Alexa over Siri, however if Apple offers a home assistant product I am sure Apple will globalize it a hell of a lot faster then Google or Amazon. To be honest, in this regard, I have a lot more respect for Apple because they are not just trying to make devices that American's like but recognize that there is a huge market outside of the US for these products.

I think this is a complete miss for Amazon and perhaps my days of using Amazon Echo are limited if Amazon doesn't figure out how to at least let me enter my postal code so I can get local weather properly.
