Just to stir the pot and play the devil's advocate: what products and services DO you purchase then? What food do you eat? What electronics do you buy? What clothes do you wear?

We all obviously have to make these choices according to our own ethics and value judgements, but curious how this one stacks up to your others.
If anything, it's better to buy from those sources so poor workers in developing countries can be employed instead of overpaid (through the global perspective) workers in first-world countries.

Trying really hard to find the Apple relevance here.
You can buy an iPhone 4 for 5% off?

They are competitors in hardware, digital streaming, cloud storage, eBooks, etc.

If you don't see the relevance of an Apple News site reporting on a peer technology and multimedia consumption competitor, the onus is on you.

@WildCowboy , am I off-base here?

This was reporting a sale.

Nothing specific to any of the above technologies. Just that Amazon is having a sale. What next, posting articles about Google changing their logo, or Samsung having an executive retreat in Jakarta?

Just wondering, when Amazon says "2-day shipping" does it really come within the next 2 days or is it prone to being delayed and shipments getting lost?

The item will tell you at checkout the guaranteed delivery date. It's generally 2 days, with some exceptions. My my experience, they hit their mark more than 9 times out of 10. If it doesn't arrive within that time frame which it , customer service will give you a credit of some sort, usually extend your prime membership by 1 month for free or something.

The fact that you can also get next-day shipping for $4 is also incredible.

For almost twenty years (!), I've bought tons of stuff from Amazon -- everything from automobile fuses to TV sets, printers to tools, books to kayaks, vitamins to violins. You name it, if it's not something used or rare that I can only get from eBay, I get it from Amazon in two days. It's like instant gratification :)

With Prime, I have saved hundreds of dollars in shipping each year, especially around Christmas when I'm having Amazon send gift-wrapped presents directly to family members all over.

I don't actually recall them ever missing a two day shipping deadline. But maybe I just don't remember because it was something not so important.

Now, they have missed an overnight shipping upgrade maybe once or twice in all that time, but I think that's only because it was something not in their own warehouse, but was being sent by a third party. They automatically issued a refund of the upgraded shipping cost, even though that didn't help the fact that I missed a birthday or something. (Which is really more my fault for waiting until the last second!)

Thanks, I am visiting the US and I was wondering if I might order something from Amazon if it will arrive to my address before my trip was over (2 weeks). We, the overseas aliens, will be lucky to receive something within 10 days. More like 14-24 days if not later.

Do they just leave the shipment on the doorstep if your not there?

Yeah, and it's even more amazing because here in the Northeast, we're used to regular mail deliveries taking extra days to arrive. Although, we do have an Amazon warehouse maybe only 100 miles away.

I'd say that depends on the neighborhood. I'm in a middle class residential area, so yes -- UPS, FedEx and USPS are all used to leaving boxes on people's porches (or even walkways close to the street if they're lazy), where everyone passing by can see them.

Doubt they'd do the same in, say, a city. Unless a doorman or somebody could sign for them.

Are you staying with friends? They can advise you what is normal for your target area. Or can you tell us something about where you'll be staying?

I heard something about 2 hour delivery on certain products in my area for Prime Members. I would consider prime, if there was an AppleTV app. However, I buy all my consumables, like soap, shampoo, TP, and other household stuff for the entire year, the first week on January.

I will be having a vacation in los angeles and thinking about renting a house or an apartment. Thanks a lot for your help
