I have a 2019 intel iMac and would to upgrade; but with two ports it really puts me off. I also think the two tone colour thing is ugly.
They make silver.

In practice, I find that investing in a USB-C or Thunderbolt dock to be a more viable option than just having two more USB-C ports on the back. Invariably, you're going to need the occasional USB-A or SD card slot. And reaching around the back to plug in a dongle is always a headache.

Don't get me wrong, the 4-port TB/USB-C version is definitely nicer with the ethernet and TouchID trackpad and I get good use out of those. But having half the ports wouldn't really slow me down that much because if you're really going to use it "like a computer", a dock or fully-featured dongle will probably get a lot of use.

Is that honestly even an issue? When one gets an iMac they get it for the screen and the chip. What charging cable is used for the keyboard and mouse seems so trivial. The mouse is wireless so you cant even use it connected to the wire so that a moot point. The keyboard does have the argument that it can be used connected but again the majority will be using these items wirelessly.
I think their point, which does seem reasonable, is that with even the Apple TV remote having been updated to usb-c well over a year ago, it's odd that the keyboard hasn't been, and likely that the reason why is they made far too many of them. It is the best explanation I can think of for a pretty weird device to be the (final?) holdout.

Am I the only regular MR contributor that owns M1 iMacs in both 8GB and 16GB configurations?

For 99% of “normal iMac things”, they perform the same. Who really cares if some swap gets used? Show me the threads here where people actually had SSD failure due to swap.

Unless you’re gonna put your money where your mouth is and tell us how the 8GB iMac you actually bought is a big obstacle for your regular workflow, then you’re just polluting the thread with pointless gripes.
I had an 8GB M1 Air and I experienced regular noticeable slowdowns moving between apps. For my work I usually have a few Adobe apps, Final Cut, Chrome and maybe 5 other random apps open at one time. I found it frustating enough to upgrade to an M1 Pro Macbook Pro with 16GB RAM. I am pretty sure thermal throttling wasn't the issue, as I can also use my wife's M2 16Gb Air with no slowdowns. My experience with the 8GB M1 Air wasn't terrible, but I found it jarring every day. If I didn't need to use so many apps concurrently, it would have been fine. Though I would have worried about its longevity.

OK, most pedantic post ever, but this bad logic is just hurting my brain.

You are, twice in a row, doing something that is just hurting my brain. It's called "affirming the consequent." You are essentially saying:

"If Apple wants to reduce prices, prices will fall on Amazon. Prices fell on Amazon, therefore Apple wanted to reduce prices."

and then:

"If units aren't moving, prices will go down. Prices are going down, therefore, units aren't moving."

Neither is actually true. Even if the first statement is true, seeing the second thing happen, the consequent, doesn't guarantee the first thing. For example, Amazon could be reducing prices because they find being the cheapest place to get Apple products gets people to sign up for Prime, Prime credit cards, and be sticky Amazon Prime customers, and they are even eating a loss. They could be moving fine for Apple overall but be concerned about competitors. They could be moving fine, but simply think they will move even better, and be overall more profitable, at a lower price, particularly if their manufacturing costs have changed since launch.

There are *tons* of possibilities for both scenarios that lead tot he same outcome without requiring the one and only condition you are putting out there.
Talk about pedantic.

Honestly, with the crap they’ve been releasing lately I thought Apple intended to kill the iMac line for good.

The current option is a joke.

Good to see discount on M3 iMac. Would have been good if the offer is available on all colours.
