Cue the Apple fanboys saying Amazon is trying to get a jump on Apple/Beats.

Except that Apple has streaming, even if not 'on demand' of music that includes current titles and is a quarter of the price for ad free playing (and the whole 'match' thing)

So if anything this is Amazon trying to keep from falling further behind. Now if Apple can get their tv and movies (especially the tv) in order then they have a shot at not falling behind Amazon on that front.

----------

I'm so done with supporting anything from Amazon.

Their business model is evil and it's not customers friendly.

A few lost customers won't really affect them. Lawsuits, the DOJ etc is what is needed to break up their practices. And hopefully get rules in play that stop anyone else from the same stunts. In particular the exclusive deals stuff on non 'original' stuff. I should be able to decide if I get my stuff from Amazon, Apple or whomever. Not be forced to go with a certain service because they cut off everyone else.

In what universe is this free? Considering Amazon just increased the price of Prime by $20, this is hardly "free." You are defacto paying for this crappy service through the increased fee.

To me it is free since I subscribe to Prime for the 2-day shipping--anything else added to that is a free benefit for me since I would still pay the money just for the shipping benefit.

Six months? Deal is dead before it even leaves the table.

Yeah. I can't imagine who thought this was a foolproof plan.

But that's not how "free" works. It's an increased premium due to added services. It's the exact definition of "not free". You are paying more for extra stuff.

Prime is worth it for me on on the delivery savings alone. Throw in videos and now music and it's a terrific deal.

I don't see what people are complaining about, but then again this is a public forum so there is always something to complain about :)

If you get Prime for the shipping, it's a good deal. Otherwise, the free Prime video selection is poor (Amazon instant video (not the free prime video) is good) and I would expect the free Prime music service selection to also be poor. You generally don't get something for nothing :D.

Note: I believe that most people who get Prime want an option to get a lower price Prime that only includes shipping.

they just got all the old HBO shows on Prime

That's a step in the right direction for Prime free video although I think Amazon had to do something for customers after the price increase. I still would get Amazon Prime for the shipping and not for the free Prime video. I still have to see what the Amazon music service (free catalog) is before deciding if it's worth it.

Except perhaps Android users don't care about that. Amazon is cross platform. I think that's why Apple bought Beats - so they can finally be cross platform too.

6 months or older does not bother me as the new music is complete crap. Nothing beats the 80's which nothing can touch. Also the 90's was not that bad either.

Even at $99 prime is a deal if you order online. Free two-day shipping that usually still comes in 1 day, or overnight it for $3.99 until 6:00pm the same day.

But eventually they "bundle" features I don't care about and raise the price to cover those costs, and I'm left to decide how much I want to prop up their bloated bundled business model. I already have this "feature" with my Cox cable bill...

Fair point.

Although I won't be shocked if Beats Music for iOS/MacOS ends up with some features that don't turn up in the others. Or if eventually they drop the others. That iMessage bug has shown that Apple isn't exactly proactive about protecting folks from issues if they switch. and the state of iTunes for Windows shows they aren't exactly keen on an equally prime experience for those not fully embedded 'in the cult'
