I wouldn't be surprised if this was deliberately done for marketing purposes.

I Wouldn’t be surprised if you were completely wrong. You honestly believe this was released for marketing purposes? More like Something was inadvertently disconfigured in the software or a security breach where an unknown source interjected random code.

Alexa is the best. We have Google Home mini, Alexa and Siri. Ask the three of them “Do you fart?” Siri lamely says “I don’t have an answer for that.”

Google says different funny things like “Even if you smelt it, I’ll take the blame for dealting it.”

And Alexa...actually farts!

Amazon confirmed on Wednesday that in rare circumstances, the voice assistant can mistakenly hear the phrase “Alexa, laugh,” which under its normal programming would trigger it to chuckle. By late in the day, the company said it had deployed a software update to the speaker that fixed the problem.

“We are changing that phrase to be ‘Alexa, can you laugh?’ which is less likely to have false positives, and we are disabling the short utterance ‘Alexa, laugh,’” a spokeswoman said in a statement. The company is also changing the assistant’s response to the prompt from simply laughter to “Sure, I can laugh,” followed by laughter, Amazon said.

Well, looks like the fun is over.

Bummer, I thought it was entertaining to make Alexa laugh. So many creeped out scaredy cats out there had to ruin it. It is just not the same when you have to say "can you laugh" instead of the immediate "laugh".

How about an evil laughter followed by “oh, I just thought of something very funny” (in a creepy voice) followed by another evil laughter :)
