ambiance sensor on rmbp

anybody's keyboard sensor for the rmbp a little wonky? the backlight on the keyboard never seems to go off even if i'm in a super bright room. its not a big deal but i'm just want to know if my sensor is broken or not

there is a setting that keeps the keyboard back light on all the time, check that

It will always stay on by default. You can turn it down manually and it will shut of via the buttons on the keyboard.

i check the preference for it to illuminate automatically when its dark. what does that option mean than if it will just stay on by itself forever till i turn it off?
