The title of this thread is "AMD Zen". I never wanted to build a Hackintosh.

You want to move it to "Alternatives to Mac Hardware"? Then Mac discussion is irrelevant there.

Like iMac and Macbooks are "irrelevant" here.
 
From what I see from results I am guessing about 6 months to satisfy BIOS and processor bugs that will need to be updated for a reliable system with benefits.
Ryzen will be a great alternative for workstation and ok for gaming.
I would not mind Apple going with Ryzen only because I would like to build a hack to match my Intel one just for fun.
In all honesty I don't see Apple going for it.
 
I would like to see a review of how much they can overclock each model at a maximum of 1.35v .
 
I think that nobody mentioned here that the 1700 also has XFR, but limited to 50MHz, instead of 100MHz.

There's a claim the i7 benchmark was showing 4GHz numbers, not 5GHz.

If I had seen the description in youtube maybe I would not seem to have noticed something weird (if the claim is correct, my question stands).

He completely trounced them. It appears that 90% of youtube reviewers don't actually know what they are talking about.

Check this analysis on what has happened.

P.S. For Naples, expect 2.4 GHz(AT LEAST) All core boost for 32C/64T version.

Some Asrock motherboards have Bluetooth 4.2 . This in interesting because finding a good BT stick can be a pain.

They also have 2x M.2 slots and WiFi.

One even has 5GbE.

But they don't have a USB 3.1 header or SATA Express.

And I found no AM4 motherboards at all with an eSATA port, much less eSATAp.

I think if you prefer some X99 motherboard, the 6800K pricing looks quite decent.

What can be very expensive is the board itself.

It looks like AMD is starting to talk more about Naples. The 32 core variant does indeed have 128 PCIe lanes. Its composed of 4 Ryzen dies on the same package. Even if Apple uses a 16 core version with 64 lanes, this would give them plenty of room to include multiple SSDs, dual GPUs and 3-4 TB3 controllers.

Its just unclear what the clock speeds are and how communication between the different dies may impact performance.

128 lanes is with 2x 32-core CPUs. 1x 16-core would be 32 lanes, twice as Ryzen.

Remember than Ryzen has another 4 lanes for NVMe.

No, each 32 core CPU has 128 lanes. To get the best possible communication between dual socket setup 64 lanes from each CPU are reserved for communication between the CPUs.

So regardless if you will go for 1S or 2S setup, you will get 128 PCIe 3.0 lanes.

16C/24T - Quad Channel, 64 PCIe 3.0 lanes.
24C/48T - Hex Channel, 96 PCIe 3.0 Lanes.
32C/64T - Octa channel, 128 PCIe 3.0 Lanes.

Expect both 150 and 180W TDP versions, for 24 and 32 Core CPUs. 16C version should come with only 150W TDP.

Ah. I knew there was a fast connection between the CPUs but not what it was.

Do we really know any details about a 16-core version?

Maybe there will be 1P server CPUs.

I think there were rumors that the workstation platform would top out with the 16 core version. I don't remember where I saw that though. 32 core designs are for high density servers.
