Yeah. The 10 nm 2+0 chips are PAYED by Intel to Lenovo, so they can gt enough PR attention, and lie to shareholders that everything is fine with their 10 nm process.

10 nm process is not in HVM(High Volume Manufacturing) till 2020, which Murthy Reduchintala said in last Conference for shareholders.
 
The circumstances are absolutely terrible for Intel, and shows you how technological advantage can go "poof" in just two generations if your management is stupid, and full of themselves, and underestimate your competitor.
 
Will Zen 2 have 1-cycle AVX2 ?

Then there's still the AVX-512 mountain to climb.

Ryzen appears to have done miracles for AMD's share.

Desktop has 12% share, and mobile appears to have 8% share.

Compare to previous years, where AMD has 6% share on desktop...

Sales share are a little bit different. In November and December AMD got over 50% of sales of CPUs from total market. Aaaand they releasd another wave of CPUs lately, Raven Ridge APUs on desktop. So I guess, they will only start to climb the mountain.

Lisa Su, in JPMorgan conference has said that they expect to DOUBLE their share over upcoming 2 years.
 
I'll take the small performance hit on single-core utilization compared to Intel if it means better multi-threading. There's still the issue of some Intel optimized software being slower. I'm not reading great things about Intel's 10 nm and they may need a completely new architecture to get way ahead of AMD. OTOH, I won't be upgrading my workstation for another 1-2 years, so who knows what will be in store then. Though a nice 2950X sounds great for my needs.
 
I just priced a basic 4GiB AM4 build using the cheapest components (no ebay) and it came to $180. I guess it would be $160 if RAM prices were normal.

Of course, some things are suboptimal: one stick of memory, A320 motherboard, PSU-case combo.

B350 motherboard for $10 more. Worth it.

Upgrading to 2666MHz RAM: $3 (maximum OC for this APU). Worth it for Ryzen later.

Unbundling the PSU for something likely more trustworthy: $10. Good insurance.

Upgrading to 2x 4GiB: $40. Upgrading to 2666MHz: $1 (but 3000 is $8 more instead). I would just see how it goes with one stick first.

The new Arctic passive cooler would be more than enough for this APU.

Which motherboards have an SR-IOV ethernet controller?

What about VF drivers for Windows 10?

It seems the Fatal1ty X399 still has all 3 ethernet controllers in the same IOMMU group. This is the only Ryzen board with 2x GbE + 1x 10GbE. :(
 
Can you partition Threadripper into two dual channel halfs in a hypervisor?

Answer: well, you can set NUMA mode in the BIOS.

That backs up what everyone's been saying for weeks. There's a lot of blame to go around at Intel for this cluster****. While hardware shortfalls can't really be blamed, there's been a lot of slacking on Intel's front on other things.

I've got probably 2-3 years left in my current workstation, and whoever offers the best all around product by then will get my money.

Guys, I know how this will sound.

But next year, its Intel who will be technologically behind AMD... Server, Consumer markets.
 
Threadripper 2000 series will come with higher than 16 core core counts.
