Hi, I accidentally corrupted my bios on my MPX version of the AMD Radeon pro w6800x card. Would someone know where I can download the bios rom? Or would they be willing to send me theirs (it you have this card, the rom not your card :)

I checked techpowerup and don’t see it uploaded there. Any help would be massively appreciated. I searched through the forums and Google with no success.

Thank you in advance

Confused. Wasn't aware they had one. How did you do it?

They should do, as for how to update it, probably in windows like for other cards we use? I don't know if the ROM is available.

I would expect it is different to the PC W6800 Radeon Pro (the blue card).

That’s the issue I have, the bios is not posted. If anyone has windows on their Mac and could help me here it would be greatly appreciated. I think you would need to download GPUZ and then save down the bios:

I have the card but don't have windows installed. Still don't understand how you managed to corrupt the bios.

I have a normal W6800X but it’s out of the computer at the moment.

I have another 7,1 being shipped and when it arrives I’ll put that card in it and try to see what I can find.

Hi Avro707, any chance you got your card and can help me? Would be very much appreciated.

This is the .rom for the card. Unzip the packed file.

Oh my god you are a legend! Than you so much. I’m going to try tonight.

hi Borowski, is it possible you have the duo version of this card? Meaning you have a w6800x Duo?

Maybe this fits, also zipped file.

that one too is not working. Your card is the Radeon pro w6800x mpx? That’s the one I need. Also the file is .sb format. Do I just change the type to .rom?

if you are using gpu-z. Can you try submitting to the online database? I can try to pull from there too.

You'll find all needed vbios-files inside the macOS-install app. I extracted them from Sonoma, maybe not all gpus will get vbios-update.
You can change the extension from .sb to .bin or .rom, if needed.

Do you have a vbios-dump of your card? I'm wondering about the size: 768 and 832KB of some files is uncommon, but for me it looks complete.

Where do I find them? How do I extract myself so I don’t bug you? I’ll try them myself. They do look smaller than others I went tried (which are about 1mb).

I was able to locate the sb files. for anyone else that might need to do this: You have to extract the .pkg files

run "pkgutil --expand <pkg location> <destination>"

then open up the main .DMG in there and unzip the 14gb file in one of the folders.

Borowski, do you think I could reinstall Sonoma to try to reinstall the bios update through the installer.

You can try it out, but i don't believe this will reinstall the vbios.

Why do you think the vbios on the card is corrupted? A physical defect ist much more probable.
What is the issue with the card?

I tried to reinstall Catalina but that didn’t work. The card basically shows up on gpuz without a bios loaded up. So I think my only hope is someone with a current card sending me the rom.

Borowski you are a god! so ultimately your solution of pulling the rom from the install media worked. I was having issues flashing the rom in windows so created a live linux USB and then tried there. It successfully flashed my bios and now when back in windows the card is recognized. can't thank you enough for thinking of this.

wanted to share this so anyone reading this post can also find this. If you are having issues flashing the bios in windows just use a live linux USB. You'll have to option + R boot into recovery and use the utilities to enable booting from USB drives. Just set the security to low. I hope I am not breaking any rules by posting the instructions to get a live USB to be an allowable boot media:

Borowski thank you again!
