I actually prefer Coke over Pepsi, I tried to stop drinking but after about a week I can't do it.

Not necessarily coke, but at Disney World's Epcot, they have a nifty soda room, where you can try different types of soda from around the world. I liked the kind from Israel, as well as the Moroccan variety of soda.

When I went to America I didn't notice any difference in the taste of the Coke there. One thing I did notice was the funny shaped 2 litre bottles (on the right):

Maybe they're just a reflection of the shape of the people that drink them. :p I kid, I kid.
The real reason is probably just the shape/size of our fridges really.

Dr Pepper > all.

If there's a quantity of carbon dioxide that would cause a human being to explode if consumed, Dr. Pepper contains just a tiny bit less than that quantity :)

I've only ever tasted UK and Nigerian Coke. Nigerian Coke's much nicer. Their Guinness is also ... interesting. 7.5% a.b.v. I was the drunkest, gingerest white-boy in all of West Africa that night! (good times, good times...)

What's up with the skinny bottles on the left?

They're the 2-litre bottles we have in the UK. Virtually all 2-litre drinks bottles are that shape here :)

All I know is that Coke mixed with lots of Grenadine is like the best thing in the whole entire world.

I use to be more of a pepsi girl, but I'm starting to like Coke more.

Dr Pepper > all.

Quoted for truth

No, your 2 liter bottles are funny shaped :p

I prefer cans anyways. I can always taste a difference in soda that came from a bottle vs from a can. Sometimes the bottles are rather flat and plain tasting, whereas the cans always have more flavor and pack a bigger punch (louder belches, which I always aim for :D)

Wouldn't thinner bottles be a better choice, since they can fit more on the shelves?

And yes, Dr. Pepper is pretty ace but it doesn't half send my heart funny. I tried to sort out my caffeine problems by having 2 Red Bulls a day for a week, it was like dropping an internal nuke! And didn't work

That was the Coke pavillion, and I was told by the folks there that they vary the sugar content of sodas (not all named "Coke" but all bottled by Coca Cola) in different countries based on taste preferences. Pepsi is more popular here in Quebec because it tastes sweeter. I used to love Dr. Pepper or 7-Up; now I can't stand soft drinks.

Do you like tea? I kicked the habit of drinking soda my sophomore year of high school. Just drank tea and water (All water taste the same, at least around here).

As for different tasting Cokes, I went to the Coca Cola place in Las Vegas. Back then they let you try every kind of Coke from around the world. I remember an African kind being the best.

Not a big fan of tea. I like Iced Tea (aka sugar), but that certainly doesn't help. When I stopped the first time all I drank was water and milk.

Mexican Coke FTW. If you say you can't taste a difference, you're lying.

I got a case from our Mexican grocery store last year for Christmas, and it was gone in 3 days....I drank more Coke that weekend then I had in 3 years! It was like welcoming back an old friend :)

(still thinks new coke was a HFCS switch conspiracy)

<conspiracy theory>

Or, it could be that the corn lobby in the US is stronger than the sugar lobby, and with heavy subsidies that corn gets, it is cheaper to produce Coke with HFSC than sugar in the US, even though the absolute cost of HFCS is higher than the cost of sugar.

If E85 catches on and doesn't end up being the Laserdisc of the alternative vehicle fuel revolution, you may one day see a switch back to sugar.

Coke everywhere is different especially in fountains. But with cans/bottles, the Coke distributer in that country for some weird reason which i don't know uses different sugars (Mexican -vs- US) and different syrup to carbonated water levels.

Now that is weird lookin...

I think the reason it has a different taste all over the world is because every country just uses the cheapest, most widely available sweetener they can find, and so different countries use different sweeteners, and each has a different taste simply because of where it was produced.

I don't think Coke really designed a different flavour of Coke for every different country. What's the point? Even if there's a difference, it's not large enough for me to completely stop drinking Coke, or good enough for me to start drinking more Coke.

There's definitely a point. Tastes vary so much between cultures. Using the example of Nigerian Coke I mentioned earlier, 'Diet' Coke is hardly drunk by anyone - the artificial sweetener (which we're used to) literally overrides any other flavour. My step-dad (Nigerian) says Coke here is undrinkable. The diet version tastes of chemicals and the regular version is insanely sweet. Coke flavours are modified to fit the local diet. If people consume very little sweetened foods, they'll simply find a sugar/sweetener-heavy drink undrinkable.

Likewise, to us, Nigerian Coke would taste unusually 'Coke'-y to us. It's almost, very slightly, bitter. Very refreshing :)

(at a Nigerian wedding, it's tradition to eat a Kola nut. This is insanely bitter to a Western palette. I could only manage a nibble or two -- but they can eat it without flinching :D)
