Scottish hundreds much loved by secondhand car dealers, heavy punters on the horses and drug dealers.

on the problem with coins: how about paying with coins ;)
Touche.

Over here, I exist pretty much "cash-free". On the rare occasion (once or twice a month) I use paper money, the change I get is trivial and almost always ends up in a cup-holder in my car. I haven't purposefully had to carry coins since my milk-money days back when I was in grade school. :)

When I was visiting Germany, it was just weird to end the day with a pocketful of coins, some of them of significant value. Each morning, we'd have to remember to sort through the change and pull out the €1 and €2s.

it's jsut a matter of getting used too, but they can be really convient while going out in the evening or paying amounts exactly (just have to look at my smoker friends and their machines ;)) or of course vending/coffee machines...
then you need a coin for the shopping cart or the bus ticket automat
also at one groceriy store they have some 0,5 liters of coke for 0,50 (not 0,49)

what is really useless are those small copper coins which we have thanks to retailers selling everything for 9,95 or 0,59 cents or whatever.... those i collect and bring to the bank every year

I got the same feeling when I was in New York. American money feels to fragile and old most of the time, and all the notes are to similar.
I love all English money, even though the new £20 note looks like a Marks & Spencer voucher!
The Euro can go **** itself. :)

I think their durability is about equal. I prefer the way currency looks and the size differences here though. I like the £1 and £2 coins too.

Australian money is the nuts! It's plasticy. It's pretty and I think it wins for durability. You can get it wet, bend the hell out of it and it folds right back out. Clever shizzles.

Looking at the exchange rate Monopoly money is worth more than the US Dollar:D

3. It smells funny too, doesn't it? I've always thought so anyway.

That's because many bills are covered with trace amounts of feces and cocaine. ;)

PS: Australian money is "da bomb." It's plastic, doesn't rip, and you can even take them swimming at the beach or in a pool. No more rips from getting your money wet. It also doesn't look too bad. They have the different sizes and colours, which is good.

Canadian money wins for beauty.

United States currency is really ugly, especially in the most recent iteration.

I remember all of the wailing and moaning when the UK central bank dropped the pound note in favor of the coin. They did the right thing, though -- exactly what the US Treasury needs to do here if there's ever going to be any hope of acceptance of a dollar coin.

I just picked up some of the new Jefferson dollars btw. They look fine, except the bust of Mr. Jefferson makes him look vaguely like a character from The Simpsons. Who knows, maybe that's deliberate marketing ploy on the part of the Treasury!

When you're right, you're right.

U.S. paper money looked a lot cooler and better way back when the bills were close to twice the size they are now.

Sample B

Sample C

I seen a few of these, at stamp and coin shows, and at some of the dealers in downtown Boston. Compared to these designs, present U.S. currency is, in a word, boring.

Attempts have been made to get Americans to accept a dollar coin, but most people just won't adjust, which is a shame. Heck, I still think two dollar bills are cool, but must people have never even seen one.

As far as coins go, they really need to return to such designs as the Peace silver dollar.

That was one big honking coin. I think they need to make it small but hefty, like the UK pound coin, and then withdraw the dollar note from circulation.

Please refrain from using the term "top one" when a picture of the Queen is nearby. Thank you.

LOL of the day. :)

Why no US money posted? some people might not have seen any of it before

feel free to print it at your leisure

I actually like the new designs of our US money ...I just wish they'd update all of the bills! I can't stand the fact that three different generations of designs are currently being printed (the $1; the $5, $10, & $100; and the $20 & $50).

I also like the fact that every bill is the same size. When holding a large stack of cash, it makes it much easier to hold when all the bills are the same size.

And for the record, I can't wait until the day when we finally dump the $1 bill and adopt the $1 coin.

PS - The Presidential $1 coins have to be the most unflattering portraits of Washington and Jefferson I've ever seen.

Anyone ever have one of these? Recognize the U.S. Statesman's portrait?

One thing I never understood is how some currencies have different size bills. That annoyed the heck out of me the last time I was in Europe. I mean, I suppose it helps people who can't read the bills, but besides that I liken it to playing a game of cribbage with odd-sized cards. Just plain awkward :p

I have a lot of trouble with American money. It all looks the same to me, since I'm used to looking at colour for different values. I know they apparently added colour to American bills sometime recently, but I didn't really notice a change at all. It's still green! I prefer coins instead of smaller bills because I find it easier to pull change out of my pocket than open my wallet and fumble around looking for a few measly notes.

Australian money is awesome, though a bit waxy. It definitely saved me a few dollars when I accidentally put some through the wash, haha.
