I was convinced by hearing rumors that AMOLED displays are hardly even noticeably better vs a LCD. I am pretty picky with displays, and I can immediately tell the difference!

the blacks on the panel blend in to the black bezel 100%, and you cannot see where the bezel starts and the display begins.

absolutely beautiful!

I’m not just ranting because I like my new phone either. AMOLED IS JUST RIDICULOUSLY GREAT!

there is a day and night noticeable difference.

who even started this bs rumor???

The only thing I hate is when the blacks smear really badly at low brightness with certain backgrounds. If you go into the Apple Watch app on your phone and start scrolling up and down you can notice it really easily.

Yeah I went into iMessage and was blown away how black it is on dark mode. I love it. It’s been a long time coming and wish Apple had incorporated this years ago but glad we have it with iOS 13. Looks fantastic on my Pro Max

I knew they are far superior, but coming from a iPhone 7 non-plus and a short while on a iPhone 8 (with True Tone at least) this is just a crazy update

LOVE the display and the new cameras are amazing. Need to go to the forest to test them out this weekend

I remember the good ol days when Samsung first started using OLED screens. Many people here were saying that OLED was a gimmick and the LCD screens that Apple used were far superior. Oh how times have changed.

To be fair, there are a few disadvantages VS LCD
-Blue shift when you tilt the screen
-PWM Flickering (Only really matters if you’re affected by it, most people aren’t)
-High contrast items on screen are prone to smearing while scrolling (White text on black background, etc)

But yeah, beyond those, OLED is gorgeous. Especially compared to the 11’s lower resolution screen, it’s like night and day.

To be fair the displays have come a LONG way since. The first Samsung OLED wasn’t the best at the time for me

My first OLED was the S4 or S7 Samsung Galaxy. Can't remember. I think I had the iPhone 7 at the same time(I like to try Samsungs alongside my iPhones here and there). This was one of the biggest pluses on Samsung's side at the time.

It was a superb screen with a little native over saturation, but Apple finally came through with OLED a few years ago.

I totally agree with you, that OLED is better in almost every aspect, EXCEPT for the fact, that it gibes me headaches and dizziness o_O
Can’t use the XS Max of my buddy more than a few minutes without feeling funny and strange.

Don‘t know what I will do when Apple switches to full OLED. I have a little hope that they will adjust their OLEDs somehow to reduce PWM or whatever. But the way they implement OLED right now is not for me :(

Pretty sure they could just increase the speed of the pwm and people’s issues would go away. It’s currently set pretty low. Maybe increasing that uses more power? I don’t know why they haven’t done it if not. DC dimming is another option but that shifts the colour balance and we all know how anal Apple is about colour balance.

OLED is fantastic, no doubt, but Apple makes the best LCD panels on the planet. While I get loving true blacks, especially in dark mode, I can’t look past the black smear side effect of OLED. I use my iPhone mostly in dim or very dim light, and black smear drives me mad. I understand it’s a technical hurdle with the OLED tech as of now though.

Dark mode is where you really notice the different. The LCD looks like a milky gray because of the backlight having to light up other things on the screen. The OLED is a deep perfect black.

If you think it is a big difference on a phone, just watch an OLED TV is a dark room. It will take your moving watching experience to the next level.

I don’t know, my new 11 pro max is my first daily driver with AMOED. Coming from a 7plus (high DPI LCD), I’m not exactly blown away by the new display. In most lighting the 2 displays look extremely similar. Yes, the 11 pro is better. Just not by as large an amount as was hyped. It‘s bit more saturated when the screen is fully dimmed, and blacks are more inky. But I’m not really left with the impression that my content looks any better.
That said, I mostly went for the pro to get the 2x lens, the display was just a small side benefit.
