They are different. On iOS you can adjust the ringer and media, different from the alarm. I don't know why that guy thinks lowering ringer volume messes with alarm.

So, you want the phone volume so low that you can't hear it, but want the alarm loud....? And somehow, the mute switch wouldn't work here...? The mute switch doesn't effect the alarm.

Dude, give it up. It's a smart design and it works very well. The guy obviously didn't know about the Do Not Disturb feature.

WTF?? Do you like, actually even USE iOS? Putting the ringer volume down doesn't affect the alarm. I would know, I've done this many times with my iPod touch.

Oh I agree with that. But not only is he ignorant to other peoples use cases, he is even spteading misinformation about how iOS handles the three different volume settings. And the ringer volume DOESNT affect the alarm.

I want to point out that I had no issue with the iMessage problem and I switched phones on a regular basis.....

Which makes me wonder what the exact culprit is. I do know, that if you plan on switching for a while (or good). All you need to do is sign out of iCloud before you switch.

From what I experienced earlier this year with a One M8, a G Flex, and a One Plus One, if I use someone else's iPhone that doesn't have a pre existing thread with me, texting back and forth works like normal. The send button is green right from the start. Some people that I had an existing thread on their phone, I was unable to receive their texts as they send as an iMessage.

Whats weird is when I used the G Flex, I had a T-mobile SIM I put in my iPhone and I used my AT&T SIM (my main number) into the Flex and everything worked just perfectly even though I already an existing thread on the iPhone.

It could be the way the other person has the contact set up in their iPhone. If you are in their address book as "iphone" it could be why it forces iMessage even if its turned off.

They are most assuredly not different, the ringer and alerts volume affects any ringer, including the alarm ringer volume.

This chap probably should have used the phone for a few more days before making this video because some of his criticisms have quite basic solutions.

The 'Do Not Disturb' feature is something I use every week night and would have solved his notification issue. Mine is set to come on at 10pm and goes off again at 6am when I get up. I have a list of important family numbers that can alert me in certain circumstances and everybody else comes through silently. He should have researched this a little I feel. 🙂

When I had my iPhones(3GS-4S) I always kept the vibrate on thus my ringer was never affected.

That is what prompted me to suggest that ringer volume doesn't affect the alarm.

For those wondering, this problem does still exist and signing out of iCloud has no effect on it. Apples servers hold a certificate on your cell # that takes 7 days of non-use to cancel. In this time, people with iPhones will not be able to message you unless they click/hold each iMessage and click "send as text message."

The only immediate fix is to call Apple and have them revoke your iMessage certificate. Such a pain that you can't do this manually within your iCloud account, but it does fix the problem immediately.
