The Mac does the same thing.

alias stuff is all over osX especialy with connections to ftp servers

were did you get that idea? if no one can open it then how did everyone watch it? do you even know what wmv is?? its a windows media player file, wich works on, omg! windows media player, wierd isn't it?

No arguments there.

i guess this brings up the whole argument of the problems on macs vs pc, and i dont want to get into that

And I don't want to get into your punctuation, spelling, and grammar.

but i will say this

THESE PROBLEMS DO OCCUR ON MACS, NOT NECCISARILY YOUR RIGHT NOW, BUT THEY DO HAPPEN, SO DONT SAY THAT THEY DONT.

I'll be damned if you've experimented with any of this stuff to see whether it's true or not, but several dozen of us have unanimously declared it doesn't happen based on quantitative experience. That's a good indication that it doesn't happen.

I thought the movie was hilarious. If he's a Mac user, it was a nice parody of the typical garbage we hear from Wintel users... if not it was funny nevertheless.

It appears there are 2 types of people, ones that think these problems are on the mac, and ones that think these are pc problems

a lot of people said what hes talking about doesn't actualy happen and that its a problem with pc's

well, some of the parts i laughed at the hardest, because they are TRUE (ive had it happen to me)

there are also a couple things that dont actualy happen, he claimed that you can delete system files, wich you cant.

so that of course is just a joke
many people asked "is this ment as a joke?" yes its ment as a joke, but a lot of what he says frequently happens

heres some things i want to quote

well i agree with the guy above me, cant say ive had your problems here, but it doenst suprise me that you have these problems, it seems every newbie pc user has something bad to say. and i also couldnt watch your video in windows media player, or vlc or mplayer.

I don't know why everyone is like "is he ranting about OS 9 or OS X? It can't be both!"

Well, yes, he probably is ranting about both. When I rant about Windows, I don't limit my tales of woe to Windows XP! As a longtime PC user, I have tales of woe dating looooong back. I do tend to leave the Windows 3.1 ones out, but Win95 on is fair game.

The fact that he brings up DOS should make it obvious that some of his ranting probably is directed at older MacOS versions, and the Dock comments are his shot at OS X.

dont go around calling people noobies cuz they dont like ur mac, you dont know who i am or what i do, why go around saying such things when you have NO IDEA how talented i am with computers??

and if im the noobie, please tell me why you cant open a .wmv file in windows media player

my guess is u gave it 1 second of a try and decided it dind't work so you could rant about how pc's suck, when your problem is you were trying to stream it and weren't patient enough, did you try to actualy download the thing?

i garentee you the movie plays in WMP cuz ive done it, give it another go, it is actualy the funniest thing ive scene in a long time

I have worked with at least a hundred different Macs for ten years and have not ONCE had a file rename itself to nothing just from clicking on it.
that would be why it doesn't happen to you, you are used to the "single click on name to rename" feature, in windows you click ont eh file, then click on the name to rename, thats why it happens, try it right now, single click on the name, and it will open up the rename feature, and usualy the person is expecting it to open so they hit some key that deletes it

i have experimented with this stuff, i used to maintain a very big webpage, and they gave me a imac to do it, the biggest problems i had was this

-the rename feature just kept happening, so id have to find out what name the file was before so my site didn;t get 404

-files disapearing...at one point i didn;t have administrative login on the ftp server, so they would log me in and walk away, ocasionaly when you click on a file it woudl disapear until you relogin, i cant relogin wihtout the password, so i was screwed

-the aliases of the ftp servers disapearing

-not being able to connect to 2 roots on the same ftp server at once (it would apear it worked ie 1 icon said drive a one said drive b, but drive b actualy linked to drive a, they weren;t acctualy called drive a and b but u get the picture)

go ahead and call me noobish, but ive used a mac enough to know what problems piss me off

I think he called you a newbie for a few reasons. First, under your user name, it says "MacRumors Newbie".

Second, besides the many spelling and grammar errors (which aren't that big of a deal, I'm a lousy speller and lazy typist too, people should get over that), you use lower case "i"s and spell you are as "ur" or newbie as "noobie". That's kinda funny. Just so you know, this isn't SlashDot, no one cares how smart you are or how good you are with computers. Especially when you revive an old thread and start bashing Apples on MacRumors. We talk about Macs here. We like Apple. Except when they piss us off.

Then we complain.

Also, no offense, but a lot of your issues seemed to be user error. If you knew more about the Mac OS, you wouldn't have had those problems. Maybe if you got to know the iMac better, you would have enjoyed using it more. ~ Join us, join us ~ And the reason a lot of these people couldn't see the video, was because it is a WMP 9 codec. Which AFAIK, isn't yet available on the Mac. That's why some of us had to use a PC to view it. That's right, some of us use Macs AND PCs. We're not all elitist Mac zealots.

Even thou M$ Windowz sux yo. ;P (sic BTW)

I still don't get it.

Got flame?

It just seems so funny to me how PC vs. Mac arguments arise in an instant, and then starts the intelligence insults.
Though I do agree that some of the things in the video (which I opened on my PC at work) are true, (especially the bounching dock issue. lol) I've had an overall more pleasurable experience with Macs than PCs.

Though when asked here at work (sometimes in a blatent attempt to start an argument) I usually reply that I prefer to use the best tool for the job.

Now slowly guiding my derailed train of thought back on topic, I did like the video. Reminded me of the "Mac Gamer" switch parody. "...I'm a Mac gamer...well, I used to be." lol.

hit the nail on the head

A few hours after watching this, and laughing, I was playing in iMovie working on a video of the kids and boom iMovie got an error and just disappeared. That kind of stuff happens on both sides of the Mac/PC fence.

Sure you get erors and strange/bad things happening on both platforms, but the guy is stunningly and embarassingly full of crap. Events like he described are what got me to switch to Mac (just to be clear I switched so I would get less of them, not more).

Has anybody seen video with this? He said at the end "everything you saw was edited with a Mac" so if it was intentionally a black screen it would just be a joke. Obviously he didn't make it on a Mac and save it in a Windows format. Perhaps it's a wmv for the same reason that buymusic.com doesn't allow Mac users on their website--we know he's full of crap.

I love this. Many of the complaints made about the Macs are compaints about WinTell computers.

There is not DOS in Windows anymore. There is a C:\ prompt or Comand Line, but it DOSn't have the same features as the DOS included with Windows 95 or 3.11.

I think everyone overlooked my initial point, i was just informing you that these are not problems many people make up randomly. These are all problems many people have, i was just letting you know this so that maybe you might understand the next time a "pc newbie" complains about them, like you i understand how these problems arise, and some are user error, but they still are problems if many people are having them.

I got the point, and from my pov some are not platform specific, and others are. Every system has its "features". I don't think that anybody denies that Apples have their flaws, just fewer of them. I admin both PCs and Macs, and the transistion between the two is pretty seamless for me. We just rarely saw crashes on the Macs.

By the way, the dragging the contents on to the desk top feature got me several times before I figured out what was going on.

i do have a pc and i watched it on that computer. i called you newb because it says it right under your name, and we have had lots of those lately with pc people talking about all kinds of things about the mac. i dont care how talented you are on a computer, i was just disagreeing with your problems on the mac which i have never had. and i did play it in wmp, but it only played audio, and take a look at page 1, im not the only person with the problem.

Just to refocus the thread and to keep this from becoming a Flame-A-Thon. Welcome cerver13. It takes 20 posts (I think) to loose the "newbie" tag and 500 to get an Avatar. The tags are not pejorative, but rather are used as a way of identifying how long people have been with the board. A high number of posts don’t make somebody a good member, but quality responses and an open mind do. I don't think that anybody meant any insult to you. But I digress.

It looks like it was made with love, especially if they had so many problems with a Mac.

Uhhh, OK. I was taking somebody's word for it that you need to see the video, but so far, I have had no luck at getting the video.

The MP4 compressed video is gone, the 3GPP compressed video that was also put up doesn't work (adding a .3gp extension makes it open up in QT but QT still doesn't recognize it, nor does WMP), and the PC here at work does the codec download/audio fail thing (and it doesn't even have any way to produce sound, anyway).

So can someone please post how to view the video? Sheesh, maybe I shouldn't spend time trying to watch what sounds like a lame video (and yes I listened to the video).

lol... no.

Heh i finally got the audio file to work... but contrary to what Sir OMG WTF LOL may think, none of these happen on macs. Drag files from CDs, they copy. Software Update - close it, genius  click the name of system files? NOTHING happens. THat's because they don't belong to you. You aren't allowed to change their names! Sure, that's a problem for some, but why would you really want to change the name? Maybe the contents, but the name?! He's talking about the useless Bomb dialog, i think, because it never worked (at least for me). The buttons always just stayed clicked and didn't doing anything. They pissed me off because they tried to help, but you knew they didn't work.

Oh - command-period was (is) the way to stop opening an application, or generally the "stop" key command. If you accidentally opened an application, if you pressed commad-period it would quit for you. Very nice. I know the guy is joking, at least I hope so, because otherwise he's quite ignorant.

ALL THSE THINGS HAPPEN ON MACS!!!1!!11!!1!!111!!1 OMG LOL WTF
