whats absurd is that you think that 20-30 who do this will bankrupt a major company..

its really not a big deal.. now if the hundreds of thousands of subscribers do this. and every single person who has an iphone does this then maybe .. but to suggest that a few dozen people on a messageboard will cause a multimillion dollar company to go down the drain is a bit unrealistic..

No, what is absurd is you thinking this is some grand original idea and that only 20-30 people are doing it. I doubt hundreds of thousands are doing it but you posting this like you are the first person to think of it is plain stupid.

The bottom line is that this is not much different than downloading an illegal copy of a song. The company, despite its faults, has to pay royalty fees to the record companies and artists (as well as the remainder of the 500 mil to Howard). they offsets this by subscriber fees and add revenue.

If you can not afford to pay the additional $2.99 to your account os 12.99 for the subscription, then use one of the nifty "free" apps everyone is raving about such as Pandora.

ok for one i have a job that i work fulltime..

for two if it was only 3$ i wouldnt mind paying but its 12.99$ soo its not really tiresome to create a new email which takes about 3 min then register online.. i will do that till they take it away ..

You are a thief. Don't try to rationalize it. You are stealing. In life, sometimes there are things you can't afford. If so, you go without. You don't steal it and make excuses about how if only it was priced right you wouldn't have to steal it.

Thief.

Agreed, cmaier, and well said.

The sound quality is poor, it sounds like a recorded tape when playing through my car stereo. You better have 3g or wifi, cause it doesn't play well on edge, which was expected.

Nice find OP! Didn't know Sirius was offering a free trial.

I'm using quality headphones and music sound quality on 3g isn't great either.

If I were not a subscriber of XM already I would not mind paying $3.00 a month. However, since I am an XM subscriber it is crock that they would charge subscribers an additional $3.00 to bring their already super compressed audio service to our portable devices.

As for the OP ... eventually it'll get tiresome having to re-register each time.

I agree. I was disappointed when I found out that I can't use the same account I use in my Tahoe to stream over the iPhone.

That's ok, keep doing what your doing.. These big companies have software and hardware that will eventually detect your IP address and block you all together...

I was annoyed when I learned I would have to pay $3 more per month and was trying to decide if i wanted to pay more or not. And was leaning towards not.

Then today I get an email from XM saying that starting next month they'll be adding a $1.98 per month 'royalty fee' so they are basically getting more money out of me anyway. I think I'm just gonna cancel now...

you mean THIS company... and when they do .. o well.. i only listen to the comedy station anyway.. which is another reason why i will not buy a membership..

There is more than 1 comedy station and that being said, no way you are only listening to 1 station. You are going through too much effort just to listen to a single station "3 times a day". Wouldn't it be less effort to just go download it instead?

well believe it or not thats how it is.. i am a huge comedy fan.. and listening to raw dog is awesome .. go download what exactly ?

1 person or 1000 people.. it's still wrong.

How is this wrong? You're not hacking into anything, all your doing is signing up for their trial service, which they chose not to implement some sort of 1 time only lock. If this were so "wrong" then Sirius XM will find a way to correct it. It may not fit into your moral code, but the OP is just following the steps to get 7 free days.

Situational ethics. Too bad.

Let's all make an account together... and slip the monthly fee... that way we could all use it and pay like $3 dollars a month :)

Honestly, I think I may myself get tired of doing that constantly. What I heard works is taking out those 5 months for $20 deals they send to previous subscribers/or for people that had a free trial when buying a new car. And then once the 5 month period is over (and they begin to charge you the full monthly price), to just call and cancel it, and after about 5 minutes or so on the phone, they rep will offer to re-instate the 5 months for $20 deal again. It's better then paying the 14.99 a month.

Note the above offer does not include the internet-streaming that you can use on your computer and/or iPhone, that is still an extra 3.50 a month. (Yes they raised the price on that too.)

I get emails all the time to get XM Sirius for $25 for 6 months. Ive never taken them up on it but that is pretty cheap. Im just not in my car enough to want to pay for radio.

I never get those emails!! I think it is completely reasonable to pay 20 dollars for 5 months!!!

ok first you just need to go to the website on you computer and sign up for a free seven day trial.. all you have to enter is a name(which can be fake) and an email adress..

so i have done this 2 times now.. ( i have a few email adresses )

i signed up for 7days with one email..it expired and then i used a different email and its working all over again..

and it asks for your phone number But you dont have to put it in .. its not a required field

If you have a gmail address you can use an alias so you don't have to keep creating new email accounts and then just vector emails to those aliases into the trash.

Having to set this up every time just for another free week isn't even worth the chump change you'd save. Plus, there are tons of FREE internet radio streams out there that are just as good if not better than anything Sirius and XM can deliver. Just spend the time finding one of those instead of wasting it setting up free accounts every week.

This has been an interesting read.

It seems that nobody here listens to the Metropolitan Opera radio. This can only be heard on Siriux XM. Free options such as Pandora don't let you listen to that I don't think..

Anyhow, can somebody explain the difference between XM and Sirius?

I just got on the satellite radio boat - the only station I like is the Met Radio.

Thanks.

.

They were two different satellite radio options. Both used different types of receivers. They have merged into one company, though the line-up is getting streamlined, they are still slightly different. There are receivers that can receive both types of service though.

I believe the App is the same now, no matter what satellite service you subscribed to.

I image that most people got whatever was offered in their car. I got XM, and I enjoyed the merge because at one time the Wilkow Majority was only on Sirius.
