Try harder.

It sounds like the screen turning on when Siri is activated is an extremely frustrating experience for you. Apple isn't going to fix it because it doesn't matter. So you can either get over it, quit using iPhones, or quit using Siri.

Nah I just needed to vent.

And I'm sure they will come around to fixing it within the next 10 years or so. After all they did fix notifications lighting up the screen when face down a couple of years ago.

I use my phone. Not the other way round. So if it runs out of battery that means the battery is not sufficient for my use case.
All batteries have limits. If you're unwise with your battery usage, that's on you; not the battery. If you bought the wrong phone for your needs, that's on you; not the phone.

Yes the phone has a proximity sensor so it knows if it is face down or in a pocket.
The sensor has a very short range, so it's possible it might not trigger depending on how large a pocket it's in.

That's all this thread is about really...venting.

If it were really an issue, decisions would have to be made.

Seems like the question was petty basic as to why doesn't the screen stay off when Siri is used and the phone is inside a pocket, as that seems to be the behavior that has been implied as being the expected one. Seems like people just kind of needlessly focused on some other things and spiraled down those rather than really focusing on that main part of it all.

Yes! Thank you! Finally a voice of reason.

In fact I've been doing some more testing since I got my AirPods and just found out that the issue is much worse than I thought. It turns out the screens doesn't turn off at all sometimes. I keep my iPhone 7 in my front jeans pocket, screen facing my leg and pressed against the fabric of the pocket.

In this scenario I ask Siri to resume playback of music, then the display lights up and the contact between the display and my leg prevents the display from shutting off. If the phone is lying completely still the display will turn off after about 30 seconds but because the phone is constantly moving because of walking or biking, the touch screen is activated.

Very valid inquiry IMO especially with the AirPods release and resulting new usage paradigm.

Well are you getting a full days usage out of your phones battery with this Siri lighting up the screen problem? As long as you get a full day out of your phone I wouldn't worry. I usually finish the day with around 50% battery left on my iPhone 7

Seriously? This comment is so far off I don't even know where to begin. My display is on constantly in my pocket. Never mind how much I have left at the end of the day. It's wasteful, makes zero sense and is an easy fix.

Well your the only person complaining about it? I suggest you send feedback to Apple if it's that much of an issue for you since there's nothing anyone on here can do to help you.
After reading some of your replies to posts on this thread Your seriously a cocky arrogant little person arnt you ;)

I totally disagree and but some of the responses in this thread leave me a bit a frustrated. Like yours.

Yeah merry Christmas to you too! You coming here asking how much battery I have left at the end of the day or commenting on my frustrations contribute zero to the thread. I hope you will realize that.
