Ever stand behind a women at a checkout, shes talking on the phone while she is being rung up. After everything is charged, only then does she start to dig in her ginormous shoulder bag and look for her wallet. The wallet is the size of Blackberry Playbook, then she thumbs through a gazillion credit cards till she finds the one she wants. She already has the phone out.

.......you forgot that she was in the Express lane with more than 20 items and has a lot of coupons to look through.

Wondering if NFC stands for No @!#&^@$ Cash?

That was hardly even a rumor.... "That thing we've talked about it may or maybe not having.... will it may or maybe not have it!"

UP NEXT! THE NEXT IPHONE MAY OR MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE IN WHITE OR BLACK!!!

LOL that's hilarious.

But really, i think the hush hush of rumors and leaks are making these analysts crazy. Hence, they're pulling crap out of no where.

The next iPhone will be an iPhone 4S? lol, you're kidding me.

I hate to break it to ya bud. The iPhone 4S is the iPhone 5. I don't understand how everyone is so confused.

iPhone -> iPhone 3G(because 3G network) -> iPhone 3GS(same but added speed) - iPhone 4 (because the 4th gen iPhone)

Even if they do release an iPhone 4S (for speed) the next one would be an iPhone 6. Or an iPhone LTE. Or an iPhone NFC. Or an iPhone nano-ray.

It would most certainly not be call iPhone 5 when it is the 6th generation. Sorry, ppl's ignorance on this topic bugs me. Especially ppl that should know better

Wondering which percentage of those "I can't wait for the next iphone" poster are still on contract with ATT?

People who just switched to Verizon are still on contract.

And if you got a 3GS you had 2 years also.

I know you can sell your 4 on ebay or so, but how many ppl always upgrade regardless of the costs?

So, theoretically one can only get a next gen iphone by waiting after the 2 years are up.

But then the rumors better be close or you'll get an old iphone NOW for 2 years without all the possible bells and whistles.

Hmmm lemme think. even assuming the iphone retains 100% of its dimensions, no NFC, and no LTE I can still think of...

More RAM (1GB)
Faster, dual core processor (A5)
longer battery life
8.0 Megapixel camera
HD facetime camera
HSPA+ (a 4G network) support
combined chip to accomodate VZ and at&t (amoung others internationally)
sprint & t-mobile support (for US)
Louder speakers
improved reception
More profit (you can't stop releasing products just because there is no dramatic technology to unveil. ppl would stop buying iPhones)

First- you made a lot of these up.

Secondly, most of these are not really noticeable to the end user.

The A4 is so fast that the iPhone 4 really doesn't experience many slowdowns at all; I really don't find myself ever going "man, I wish this was faster" as I did with my iPhone 3G. An A5 + better GPU + more RAM really won't be all that noticeable barring some kind of major iOS 5 additions, except in gaming.

HSPA+ support won't affect Verizon users.
HD Facetime camera is nice, if true, but you still can't use it over 3G.

You made up longer battery life (iPad 2 didn't have that), louder speakers, and improved reception.

NFC is out there and it is pretty cool. Big banks such as Chase are really starting to push it.

I have seen it in most McDonald's, a lot of movie theaters and most importantly, in my restaurant!

Cards with PayPass are great. It is quicker then swiping and you don't have to worry about the strip on the card being worn out. I know I always have my phone out anyway and it would actually be easier to use my phone then dig my wallet out of my pocket.

Hopefully it will be included in the next iPhone.

Call me paranoid but I can just imagine hackers pick pocketing you and getting Visa Payments from you just by walking by you in the Mall with this technology.
;)

They can do the same thing with a regular credit card... this is clearly not going to be an issue unless you are letting some unknown guy rub up on you in all the wrong ways.

Well of course 100% of them are made up.. I don't have a prototype iPhone that I'm withholding from you guys... So that's irrelavent. I'm just throwing out ideas of what can be improved. I was responding to a poster who asked why even release a new iPhone at all. I was assuming he was referring to the rumors of no NFC, no LTE, and no form factor redesign.

All of the things I listed are possible. I never said they would all occur but... iPad 2 actually does have a better battery life. Some tech site (engadget??) posted that with their metrics the iPad 2 lasts nearly an hour longer. Plus the iPad is 33% thinnner. Assuming the iPhone is the same size, you could argue it will have 33% longer battery life.

Louder speaker- Maybe it's my imagination but I feel like the speakers have been getting louder with every iteration. Or at least 3G and 4 definitely had improvements

and the reception is a reference to all the antenna concerns. Apparently this is fixed on the white iPhone, so it should at least have that improvement.

And lastly. my iPhone 4 has been lagging quite slow recently honestly. I'm not sure what all is holding it back but I certainly would like it to go faster. especially opening the camera app.

Another bad claim by a so called analyst. VISA is beginning their implementation of NFC payment across North America and few other countries this fall and it wouldn't be Apple-like to not take advantage of this feature which would draw more people to purchase the iPhone.

I don't understand what all the hub-bub is about when it comes to NFC... Are there any retailers in the US that actually have NFC installed?

quite a few already are using them.
Around here in the Houston Area we have Best Buy, Fries, Mcdonalds, Waterburger, and I know Star Bucks. Add to that the some of the coke machines on Campus it as well. This just goes to show you it is already happening.

I know there re more places but I just listed the ones that I have noticed it at that I go to more often. That and big name as well. I have seen a few small local only places have NFC set up as well.

There's not going to be a National Football Conference in the next generation iPhone? ...So Apple is to blame for the NFL lockout?!

The number system bugs me, my Macbook doesn't have a number system nor does my iMac.. it is just Macbook and iMac.

As nice as it is to think that our own country represents the whole world, the reality is that none do!

Case in point, NFC. I see lots of payment terminals supporting contactless payments these days in shops and restaurants and lots of banks are issuing cards that support it.

I was shocked to hear that it is still common in the USA to verify your identity when paying by credit card by signing a slip - that gave way to chip and PIN many years ago in Europe

A wireless wallet system (FeliCa) is widely used in Japan. There are already Android phones sold in Japan with it, making them a better choice than the iPhone for many people.

Now the big Japanese mobile carriers are planning to move to a global standard NFC... and again, have begun testing such HTC Android phones.

Bernstein analysts claim that the next iPhone will not have mobile payment support via NFC.

Can someone point out where the rumour says it won't have NFC?

(edit: remember the rumours that Apple would use NFC on the iPhone so that when you got near a Mac it automatically prompted a login, amongst other features?)

combined chip to accomodate VZ and at&t (amoung others internationally)

Make no mistake though - the current iPhone already has everything it needs for international use.

The 'world mode' chip really just adds US support - for Verizon CDMA, and perhaps Sprint & T-mobile 3G frequencies. (Yes CDMA covers china mobile as well which is good for China sales, but if you travel to China now you just roam using China Unicom)

NFC is kinda like 4G it is an excellent thing but it's only good if you can use it on a daily basis...

i could use it on daily basis on campus, all those people with android phones can now simply access the library, pay at the library, pay at the cafeteria, get access to the lab etc with their phone while i still have to use a different card for each ...

Just checking - you're saying that the iPhone4 is plenty fast enough on the version of iOS that came with it. But the iPhone3G was never fast enough even with the iPhoneOS that came with it?

You don't buy the latest iPhone because of its speed this year. You buy it because it'll STILL be fast enough next year when the old one won't.

Yes actually. Lot's of McDonald's, and 7-11's in California and Nevada have them

Why would any iPhone user be at a crappy McDonald's or a 7-11?? Gee, next you're going to suggest that we should be associating with great unwashed at Walmart...

Seems to me that as elite users, we have a duty to avoid such places and should be concerned about places such as Saks 5th Ave., Starbucks, and other elegant and sexy places to shop. If you must have a burger, overpay for one at Fuddruckers (and since I pay more, I know they will have more profit than McDonalds, which is important to us Mac Users) !

As I regular reader of Mac Forums such as Mac Rumors, Mac Daily News, and Apple Insider, I know Mac users consider themselves better than Clunky Windows Sufferers (have all of you notice how I've learned to speak the Fanboy Language?) !! Let's keep this in mind when shopping and avoid taking our delicious and magical iPhones anywhere near those crappy stores...

Let the Android people shop there!!

LOL iPhone is no longer a "elite" but a mass product, every other person has it. nothing special and yep even people at wallmart
