Well this is good news.

Except that this is a pure rumor/speculation. The news is that the Commercial Times reported a speculative rumor started by Daiwa Securities.

That's like saying "news" is you hearing about what Mr. Johnson down the block might do next Thursday, told to you by Mrs. Williams, related to her by Mrs. Helms based on what Mrs. Helms believes will happen based on the color of Mr. Johnson's clothes last year on Arbor Day.

This is great news for us consumers who want a new iPhone to replace the 4S that looks just the same as the iPhone 4. With the gorgeous new iPhone 5 we'll really stand out from the crowd. And we're only going to have to wait until June to get it! I can't wait!

I'm off to camp outside my local Apple store..... first in line baby!

I really wish they'd stop announcing products at WWDC. The conference sells out really quickly (leaving quite a few developers without a ticket), but some tickets are bought by non-developers and journalists who just want to see the keynote and product launch.

This seems premature to me.. I just got my 4S iPhone on launch date in October! Why would they update so soon?

I don't think I'm ready for a new one now.

Didn't you sign a two year contract? They don't care about you until 2013...

They should have a keynote only ticket, so devs can get into the learning sessions.

The next iPhone will not be called iPhone 5 because it isn't the 5th one.

I'm Expecting a name along the lines of iPhone 4G (assuming it is a 4G device). I heard someone at a sprint store say its going to be iPhone U but he probably doesn't know what he's talking about

I don't see a summer launch happening. The iPhone is the big product, launching in the fall sets up the big one for the biggest sales period of the year. It makes sense to sell o we this period as brand new rather than almost 6 months old.

I envisage WWDC would be a software focuses keynote as you'd expect at a developer conference. Probably a preview of iOS 6 and maybe even an early preview of the next Mac OS. It will be nearly a year since the launch of lion by that point so an early heads up of the next OS wouldn't be a shock.

I think Apple moved 4S to the fall for a reason, giving a bigger gap between iPad and iPhone launches. Both making it easier on them and consumers wallets. Plus seeing how good a more christmas-timed release for iPhone did for them...I can't see them reversing this strategy.

Spring - new iPad
Summer - new iOS revealed
Fall - new iPhone

Rinse & Repeat each year.

A little pedantic possibly but does logic follow that the next iPhone will be the iPhone 5?

It's my understanding that the iPhone 4 was the 4th iPhone and the "iPhone 5" name was coined in rumors prior to the launch of the iPhone 4S.

Do we really think the 6th iPhone will be called the iPhone 5 or is everyone just accepting it as a placeholder?

I do agree that a WWDC launch would be premature.

THANK YOU!!! I've been saying this all along, and I cringe every time I see "iPhone 5". As far as I'm concerned the fifth generation iPhone is already out and in our hands. I'm pretty sure that their sixth generation phone will not be called "5". No way in hell.

PLEASE BE TRUE! I've held off on the 4S because iOS 5 made my iPhone 4 so much faster, I didn't feel it was necessary. Plus my contract expires at the end on Feb, and it would be a nice reward to get a new iPhone in June centered around my birthday! :D:apple:

I doubt it will be released in June. They are still releasing the iPhone 4S in some countries. We probably won't see it until late in the year if at all.

What do you mean, "If at all"? They might not release it in June like years past, but you can guarantee they will not miss an entire year to release a new iPhone. Keep in mind the 4S was released last year, end of the year iPhone launch is most likely.

Of course it will otherwise everyone will ask why they skipped 5. Most people either don't know or don't care how many previous generations there are.

I doubt people would seriously sit there and question the mysterious disappearance of iPhone 5. It's not hard to see that the iPhone 4S is the mythical iPhone 5. It's not like they went from directly iPhone 4 to iPhone 5.

Please let it have a better lens than the iPhone 4. That's all I ask.

Don't get me wrong. I use my iPhone 4 as a camera all the time. But the lens could be sharper. Much sharper.

So don't buy it this year. Your 4s will be good for at least 2 years. What's the rush?

EXACTLY, I watched a guy struggle aimlessly for a minute or 2 to load a QR code on his Galaxy S 2, when my iPhone 4 loaded the same QR code like butter within seconds. I'm totally fine with my iPhone 4 until the next complete refresh.

I think the iPhone this year will be named the 4GS.

Not that I really care what they call it, but have any of you considered they might one day drop the numbers altogether? After all, you don't buy an iPod 10, or a Mac 411.

I'm not eligible for an upgrade with Verizon until October which is good and bad I guess. Good because if the iPhone 5 comes out in June then I'll have some time for all the hype to slow down before I'm eligible for an upgrade. Bad because I'll have to wait until October! I'm guessing theirs a lot of other people like me I ordered the iP4 when it first came out on VZW a year ago.

There are a lot of people who bought an iPhone 4 at launch and so will have their 2 year contract expire in June. It would be a great time to launch the new model.

I think the new schedule looks like this:

Spring: iPad, iBooks, Publishing
Summer: Mac, iCloud, iOS (Preview/Beta), OSX
Fall: iPhone

iPods will be sprinkled somewhere in there.
