I'd love to get paid to guess all day long.

When, it is no that simple. They analyze multiple data sources in order to come with a number. They probably use advanced analystic tools that measure global sells, market shares, consumer interests, etc and are applying econometric funcions to calculate the approximate number. It dosent work the way you think, sorry.

iPal my friend, 'iPal'. I know, I know, too colloquial, but by any other set of criteria, it fits the bill.

Well, I bet no. The iWatch is already what all the world is calling it. If they come with another name, the consumer will be confused. iWatch is great and iPal sound silly, no offense.

i hope apple give a big f you to everyone and releases an actual traditional watch that just tells time

still wonder what the final name will be. iPod iPhone iPad are all portable apple tech starting with iP - also one syllable. Will Apple follow suit? Or just roll with watch?

Apart from the fact they are all 2 syllables and so would iWatch be. I think there will be an iWatch and I will be preordering my next gen iPhone as soon as I can after the announcement later today!

you heard it here first..... iBand (hence the need for the band U2)....apple's first wearable device. complete ecosystem in itself opening the gateway to infinite (loop) possibilities

What self-respecting analyst makes a sales prediction about a product that doesn't exist yet, and one about which he knows no details other that you could wear it?

Way to go, Forrester Research!

Weather people with their super-computers can't even get it right 24 hours in advance... And these clowns are stating 10 million of something that don't theoretically exist?!

Wrong time for Apple's Presentation

Apple's presentation starts at 10 a.m. PDT not 10 a.m. PST.

Am I the only one who thinks the "iwatch" will in fact be the new generation "iPod". The iPod makes up 1 percent of their revenue. What will they do when it drops below 1 percent in a few years? Kill off the iPod line? They have to evolve that product line some how. Turn it in to a wearable. I think this is the answer. iPod. iPhone. iPad. No more, no less. No fourth category of device.
1% of 171 billion $ (2013), is still more than a billion $ every year.. I don't think anyone would like to give that up, even in the forseeable future, if sales keep dropping.

This right here.

Also, if it flops then it was just the inevitable evolution of technology, not as much the failure of a new device category.

It makes sense

While this is certainly possible, how do they get around the ear bud cord?

I can only see as an iPod replacement if they release some type of bluetooth headset at the same time.

Of course, the whole concept of an "iWatch" only works if you use in in conjunction with a bluetooth headset.

If Apple doesn't release a viable bluetooth headset with the iWatch, they won't be selling 10 million units.

I think you might be right. They will talk about how the iPhone has replaced the iPod for most people, so they needed a way to make it relevant again - by moving it to your wrist.

Include some awesome new wireless earbuds with mic, some fitness sensors (iPod Nano already had a few), Siri and apps then call it a day.

10 Million?!

If you can remember when Steve launched the iPhone he said their target was to ship 10 million which would give them 1% of the market (from 0%).

This seems to be just copying that... if there are 500 million iOs devices it's only 1 in 50 people. it would have to be a really bad product for them to only sell 10 million!!!

They should be able to sell 25-50 million by next xmas (2015) without much effort if it is any good.

So Apple should go with the name invented by the media to describe a product that they know absolutely nothing about? And they should do this so that nobody is confused? Silly. Ultimate silly.

Apple could sell 10 million unannounced products in one year! Wow! I really want their job making this stuff up. Where do I apply?

Anyone can spout made-up stuff up. The challenging part is looking good in an expensive suit while doing so.

I'm afraid you are out. :p

It certainly makes sense from a strategy thing, but they will have to solve the problems of price point and battery life first. I could see that convergence in 2017-8.

All I could think of was the phrase "jumped the shark."

The great thing about the iPhone was that I no longer need a watch most of the time. Why would I put on a tiny display that has limited use.

I still do sometimes wear a real watch, I have a high end precision analog for when I'm going out to dinner and meetings. Looks impressive.

I get a sinking gut feeling that the iWatch should come with a propeller beanie.
