This weird problem has just started occurring.

I use beta macOS, and I'm on the previous build before the recent update, I'm not at my computer until tomorrow to be more precise.

Every time I go into the security pane of sys prefs, the 'send analytics back to Apple, and to developers' check boxes, are enabled - even though I turn them off after each update.

It's only started occurring like this this past few days; I disable them, and as long as I keep prefs open they remain that way. As soon as I exit out of prefs, and go back in, they're re enabled!!

    I don't understand.

    Any ideas?

macOS opts you into analytics when you are installing or updating a beta version, per agreement. That the opt-out does not work is probably a bug, which you should report using the feedback assistant.

If you use beta it usually enables itself after an update. At least, that has been the behaviour for me on iOS and macOS.

Yes, that's right. I have the same behaviour, thing is, even after no update: uncheck all boxes, quit sys pref, go back in- all boxes are rechecked.

    Annoying.

The workaround is to never quite sys pref, but that plays with my mind to much.

I doubt it actually is 'rechecking' itself, it probably is never actually checked, but only shows as unchecked.

    Not sure what you mean.

If I update, it’s checked, as per normal with the beta. So I uncheck it.
Then I quit out of system preferences. When I go back in, either immediately or x amount of time afterwards, the check boxes are rechecked, without me doing anything.

What cswifx means is that the UI may not reflect what happens under the bonnet. Checking a box is just a trigger that relies on a process to handle it. Think of it like a light switch. The switch itself may work just fine, but if it isn’t wired to a light bulb, then it just doesn't do anything.

If something goes wrong in the underlying process, then you normally should receive the appropriate feedback. In your case that isn’t happening. My guess is that there is a bug somewhere in the process that handles the opt-out, as a result of which your preference isn’t recorded. Even though you tick the box, you are not seeing the result you were expecting. Keeping the window open in hopes that this will somehow block analytics is probably about as likely as that an unwired light switch will keep the lights on as long as the switch is turned on.

Yes I had considered this too. I have filed a bug report - I guess we will see!
