In the Macbook Air, is the 128gb ssd 1.8" drive of ... ? type? Is obviously doesn't perform like the Intel drives on the random writes once it's full, but is it as bad as the Jmicron drives? Anand mentions that Apple couldn't ship a drive with the Jmicron like performance, but what level of performance DID they ship out with?
What about the 128gb SSD 2.5" option on the MB Pro?
MBA ssd drive is a Samsung MLC. It does not use the JMicron controller. Performance is roughly 100 megs/sec if I remember.
The 2.5" on the MBP is also a Samsung MLC with similar performance. These drives used to only be available to OEM manufacturers like Apple, Dell, and IBM. Recently Corsair has gotten a hold of them and is selling the same drive but rebadged with their name on it.
These drives all are a generation behind in performance compared to the new Vertex (Barefoot Controller) and the not yet released Summit (new Samsung controller) and the Intel X25-E which all roughly have about twice the raw performance, pushing numbers closer to 200 megs/sec and higher.
