I cringed when I paid $50 for an otterbox. That is probably the max I would pay out... for a case anyway

wow...$149 was steep so they decided to change the color and charge $159 for it?

Personally, it looks nice...but once you touch it and feel it in your hands...you're going to say "oh my gosh...I can't believe a pay $150 for a light aluminum product." That's how I felt....it's not worth it in my opinion, but I'm sure there are people who love to pay $159 for it LOL.... $159, I can buy the top of the line wireless Netgear router with so many expensive electronic parts in it. Oh, once Iphone 5 comes out, this case is going to be trash away :)

people can get a good quality fake vapor case for $25?? you can imagine how much money does Vapor make for each sale... If they really make the case from a Aluminum Block... thats crazy.. wasting the resources.. I think they just want to fool the public ...

Its not about the production cost..its about the innovations.. They maybe the first major brand to market in the metallic bumper and they deserve the reward!!

but I won't pay $150 to get the real one nor $25 for the fake one...

My point exactly, I know its subjective but a phone isn't like a classic/antique car. You wont sit there one day when you're 80 years old and tell your grandkids "Here's my iPhone 4S case I bought for $159, isn't it beautiful? It's a classic" - classic my ass, you just overpaid for a damn case.

New devices will come out every year with new accessories, I just can't justify paying $159 for a phone case but hey if that's what you wanna do then more power to ya.

They may have nice cases but the customer service is disgusting. They take my money won't reply to my problems but they will send me an email with their new case. WTF
Buy A fake, just as nice and way cheaper.

I agreed it's too pricey and by the time iphone 5 comes next year this case will be wothless. I wonder if they're willing on selling just the back skin.

Why would anyone shell out extra money for a filet mignon over a sirloin? They both will make a turd.

Not sure why but I LOVE this analogy :D

This gem makes it easy for me in the future not to buy non-essentials whose price outmatches it's usefulness.

Thanks for sharing it Doug :)

It looks very nice, but the price is crazy...

Especially when we have other options to try ones for $25...

+1...and the last I checked, I paid $199 for my iphone 4s...yes, even though contract, i'm going to need phone service anyway....so $199 for a phone vs $190 with tax/shipping for the case. Something is wrong with this picture here :)

No doubt, the case is sexy and beautiful...but the price is not attractive.

I paid $100+ for a leather case for an iphone. I just sold it on eBay for $10 :)

It's the way CNC works, you have to start with a block and remove around it.

I don't know about aluminum, but I know that scrap steel from CNC'd knives is resold as scrap to recoup some of the cost

You can tell that these cases are CNC'd when you have one in hand too. There are no signs of krinking and metal injection molding would be a lot more expensive than CNC

Why do you think they merely aren't contracting out machining?

I would say alot of products use CNC. It is not like it is rare.

They sell for a premium because they can. It is not as if the quality is that much order of magnitudes nicer

It's entirely possible that these cases were sourced to a CNC shop and not made in house, but that's not cheap either. The QC on these cases are pretty good. I have three of them between me and my wife, and there are no burrs anywhere and the anodizing is nice and even

I have a particularly low tolerance for complaining. I used to work long days and nights, and when someone would complain about the diner food we'd have to eat in the middle of the night, I'd say "shut up, it'll still make a turd"

For those who are complaining about the price, keep in mind that the products are made in the USA. If you live in the US, wouldn't you want to support companies that are providing jobs domestically instead of shipping them overseas?

At that price, I can buy a pair of jeans that took someone a lot longer to make by hand.

Buying American made makes sense, but only to a certain extent.

How do you think macbook air cases are made? They aren't sheet metal, and they cost quite a lot to manufacture in China. Here I'm not sure about the salary for a machinist, but the equipment to produce this is extremely costly. The leftover aluminum gets recycled. You think that's wasteful because you don't know much about other manufacturing processes. Anyway it probably costs $5 in aluminum to make one. It's more labor and expensive machinery.

Blah CNC cutting does take some time, and it's not produced in sweatshops of any kind.

Value varies from person to person. Some may think jeans costing over a $100 is not worth it when you can get a pair for $20. A $150 can buy a lot of things, an iPhone case for one person, a pair of jeans for another, two weeks of grocery for someone else and etcetera. And to be honest, I've spent more on dinner for two in the past and that lasted only a few hours, but I enjoyed the experience.

My take on buying American is do so if the product is worth it. No point in supporting a product if the quality is not there no matter where it's made.

I should be receiving my cases next week so until then, I can't attest to their quality or if they are truly worth their price until I receive them. Although I was told that demand is quite high and that is the reason why my order hasn't shipped yet.

Alright, I admit the comparison was wrong, $150 for a case would therefore be subjective like anything else. My frame of thought is that most, not all, would flip their phones as soon as their contracts expire. And some, will upgrade annually, leaving the case useless.

But if it's worth $150, by all means, get the case. I'm still trying to figure out what's so great about it.

It's not worth $150 to me either. I was just trying to point out they couldn't manufacture them in this manner (especially in the US) and charge $20-30 for one without losing money, and when comparing to phones themselves, the real price paid to Apple is what should be considered. Anyway I didn't mean to sound like I was trolling you or anything.

for $150, i'd rather go caseless and pay $99 for applecare+ and $49 for one incident that covers accidental damage.
