What's so fantastic about Pages for iPad? Basically, long form typing on iPad is pretty terrible. For short notes, I don't really need a fancy word processor - Notes type app does fine.

+1

i find pages quite cumbersome. the tools are hidden deep in menues. changing font color is a pain. I used the iPad and Pages to proof read several book chapters and it's a pain to change the text color to indicate that there is something wrong.
same is true for other settings. keynote is not much better.

and both get hampered by apples implementation of multitasking. if you try to cope a file together from various sources (texts, pics, graphs) it is very tedious to change to other apps, get the part you want, change back to pages, do the same again. if there where either windows (ugh) or a simple swipe (like webOS) or something like spaces it would be so much better.

if you think the ipad is only for consumption your dead wrong. The ipad is the #1 reason I'm the top student in my Chem class, and pages has helped me create some amazing documents, that wowed everyone.

You sure that Ipad is the reason you are top in your chemistry class? If I had to guess I would pick your brain as the #1 reason not ipad. I could be wrong though :)

this would would make me very mad, spending that kind of cash, only to run in to what these poor people are dealing with... it's sad really, maybe I should hop on there and explain how fantastic PAGES for ipad is?

I read that post and I'm not sure what the problem is and why you are calling them poor people :)

There are couple of apps in that thread that do a very good job. But please do go ahead and preach them on power of pages. I really want to see how that will go

I'm not getting a Xoom because it's faster than the ipad2.

How can you possibly know that? Because of the GHz rating? Seriously Statheads aren't the type who would ever buy an iPad anyway, so whatever. Enjoy your Megagigahertz Xoom with USB port.

Realistically, I would guess that less than 5% of people with ipads, ipods, and other tablets use their devices to type up word documents. Most people use their tablets and phones for fun things, not work things, other than email.

/agree

Tablets are consumption devices. Not creation devices.

Reading your post made me remember this:

I use my iPad to type classes every week, and the virtual keyboard is great for that.

People should stop with all those retarded dogmas everywhere.
iPad is for this. iPad is for that. Xoom is for this. Xoom is for that.

Stop that ****, please. A tablet serves for what it can do.
If it has a large screen and a good virtual keyboard, what's the problem with considering a tablet as a creation device?

It's curious, but your attitude represents 90% of the Apple consumers.

ummm.........no
you are so wrong.

I use Pages all the time on my ipad. Just because some of you don't doesn't mean its not important.

but the real point of the post, if you read the whole think, is how they are looking for apps, and that the apps they are waiting on wont even be done untill summer.... and this will go on and on with apps for anything.

Let me ask you this, have you used it?? I mean really used it? or just play with it, or some ones word?

pages for ipad is a very easy page layout software, I have created some really cool stuff with this. I use it over my laptop office software.

I agree. Pages and Quick Documents HD are awesome on the iPad. And I also agree that the iPad is for more than consumption. Our entire executive team has an iPad at their disposal, and in my opinion, we are more productive as a result. Pages is awesome, and comes with a great tutorial!

That bit is still puzzling me. The Xoom's Tegra 2 isn't any faster than the A5 in terms of CPU GHz rating, they are identical (1Ghz Cortex A9 dual core) Also the A5's SGX543MP2 GPU is almost certain to be faster than Tegra2 - in fact even the SGX543's predecessor, SGX540 can beat Tegra2's GPU in its latest incarnation. I don't know what's so special about Tegra2 that people will assume it's the most powerful processor around. I suspect it's the nVidia brand name.

No.. No... I'm pretty sure it's the iPad...

Can you post some of these?

Yes your right, it can be, but I love it, and with a few tweaks it can be great!

I think the one reason why the XOOM will fail to gather any attention like the iPad does is because of its atrocious standby-time. It is only 14 hours of standby-time!

A quick Google appears to contradict this. Saying the Xoom has a 14 DAY standbytime, not 14 hours.

Ars Technica says otherwise.

Ars Tecnica said:
The Xoom's 24.5 Whr battery is rated for 9 hours of Web browsing and approximately 14 hours of standby time. During our tests, we got roughly 7 and a half hours during of battery life during mixed intensive use.

Of course, they may have made a typo, as Motorola's spec sheet does indeed say 14 days.

But after having read the review, these things doesn't make it better:

This product is rushed to the market, no doubt.
