I ended up switching to Garmin to get away from the smart watch features, and I got addicted to closing all 3 rings each day, to the point where I would lower the targets to reach em. I find not having the rings, but a simple steps target and a weekly intensity target much healthier.

I switch back and forth, but usually get frustrated either at the iPhone's keyboard, the in ability to swipe away notifications when they arrive or how difficult it is to cast to our smart speakers (we went with google nest as I couldn't find a good homekit enabled video doorbell at the time). with android it's just easier, and Garmin's work properly in terms of being able to reply to messages etc. also battery. Having said all that I have a pixel watch 4 on preorder.
Set the Garmin steps count to average. It will drive you mad. 😂

Android has been rich in QoL and customization for as long as I can remember… but to call it amazing for the ability to hide things, from a significant other?? I’d be more concerned about the lack of trust and transparency in your relationships than a new phone, but to each his own 🤷‍♂️

If you read this thread....and that is all you got from it then you missed it all.....

But agree with you on hiding things from your partner......not the best relationship advice.

I’m replying to the first post specifically, the rest of the thread is run of the mill android features that are often discussed here. It seems as though hiding content is OP’s headlining feature.

That's an easy answer:

1) They are the top global brand in the world for smartphones.
2) If you want iOS that's your only choice.
3) Smartphone technology is well past mature.
4) They now have to drip feed new features and convince their customers they thought of it first.
5) Drip feeding features is the only way to get people to pony up for another purchase.

You know the iPhone has hit peak maturity when the most exciting thing about the new iPhone's the past several years were the excitement of the new colors. That is why the hype surrounds the iPhone Air, "Awe Dropping".

Yeah, it's still a freaking smartphone that makes calls, can receive and send messages, runs apps and takes pictures like every other smartphone.
Fair enough. I guess I was more meaning in regards to some iOS vs Android features. I would have expected Apple to be up front of the pack for bringing out a foldable though back 8 years ago.

I guess due to Siri being the front runner to basically a dead horse now it does feel Apple has dropped the ball.

Like even some hardware choices I questioned. iphone 15. old processor. small ram amount. dated screen.
At that price point the screen and ram should have been better.
Yet it seems off the top of my head the only phone upgrade they used old hardware in.
Yet I was the moron for buying it. I just assumed it wouldnt be slow and laggy.
I think thats all due to the ram more than the A16 Processor. They upgraded the camera. 48mp but the ram is too small to process that file size quickly. So when you take a photo and you want to use that photo in anything app from txt etc you have the clock show up and you have to wait till its ready.

At first i thought it was ios buggy but nope. But like what you were saying .. Why try harder when you are on top for sales.

Android is amazing and there was a long history of countless nameless developers who donated time and code to the Android base. That has changed and now it is mostly Google and OEM'S that tightly control development with mostly proprietary software. Android has gotten much better over the years but lost its soul in the process. It seems more and more like a fragmented mess.

The grass is full of weeds on both sides of the garden.

Android used to be much more and open source OS and users had a lot more freedom. Installing custom roms used to eliminate telemetry and other benefits. Now unlocking a bootloader will void your warranty unless you have a Pixel. Samsung was the first to lock the bootloader and mark if you installed other firmware than official. Since then it has become basically mostly proprietary software. It would not be a problem if Google had a Good track record on privacy which they don't.

You have much more brands and hardware to choose from which is great but also fragments Android. Updates are much better but still not as smooth or as fast to all devices as Apple. Apple hardware may be more limited and specs may be more conservative but iOS is more custom made for the hardware and better optimized in general. The design choices by Apple can seem arbitrary like Pro motion being limited to pro models. With the iPhone 17 that is rumored to change? If you can get pro motion on a standard iPhone it makes the phone a much better option than in the past.

This is the first year I am considering selling my s24u and buying an iPhone 17.

I may wait for the 18 just because I really like my s24ultra but there is no Android phone that interests me anymore. Samsung is going down a path I don't agree with. My s24u is the last that looks like an ULTRA not a pro max and I want to keep it simply because I had fond memories of the s10 note with a rainbow finish.......Now my s24ultra reminds me of what I loved about that phone. As soon as you see an s24ultra or earlier you knew it was something different because of the shape and s pen. The s26 Ultra looks so far like a shadow of the Ultras before.

I love Pixels but I had two with Tensor processors and I was consistently disappointed with the efficiency and reception and other hardware failures. Pixel software is my favorite by far. I wish we could have the feature set of OneUI with the Pixel OS on a Samsung phone I would consider buying a Samsung a lot more. OneUI finally isn't bad like Touchwiz was but that is mostly because of the newer processors than a more efficient OS. Pixel OS is otherwise my favorite Android skin. Currently the Pixel 10 Pro is just crazy expensive.

No one is batting an eye for $1200 for a large pro phone base model price. At least the Ultra used to be worth a higher price and you could get higher storage free and big discounts but with Google the trade in values and resale of Pixels suck. At least with Samsung pre orders they make the new phones pretty cheap after trade in and give you freebies.

Apple prices and trade ins suck too but I can sell the iPhone privately for a lot more than a Pixel. The iPhone ages better due to slower hardware design changes year over year.

Connectivity. If you like your devices to talk to each other Apple is much more polished and automatic process than Windows and Android. There are too many hand offs between different companies with Windows and Android. Basically functionality between iOS and MacOS and Windows and Android have parity but not the same level of setup time or polish.

Lastly Android used to be cheaper than Apple. Now all top Android phones cost as much or more then iPhones. Folding phones have pushed the cost higher than the average premium laptop. At the same time they are more fragile and much less scratch resistant. Oh and a crease.

The folding phone has readjusted all phone prices higher. I mean $1200 is a lot less than $1700 so back when $1000 was sort of a ceiling for base model flagship phone. Now it is starting at $1200. I remember when flagship cost about 40% less than today.

Basically the cost of Android phones is no longer a selling point. Sure there are a lot of nice mid range phones but most people want a flagship even if it is just the most basic model. Apple sells a decent phone for $599 and goes up from there. A lot of people who would buy an s25/26 base model phone could easily buy an iPhone 16e and save money!

So for me the equation that drew me to Android for over 20 years and now is flipping that equation to Apple. Funny how tech goes in a circle over and over again.

I use Android phones and Apple tablets.
What burns me about my iPads, is when I get a notice to update an app, but the iPad OS is too old for it.

Instead of simply being able to continue using the older app version, which sometimes I paid for, that app is now unusable. It is in an eternal update request mode that cannot update.

Unless there's a way around this that I don't know?

For AI I think Samsung phones are a hit or miss since it sits between its own AI and Google's Gemini. Bixby is great when you ask it something like setting an alarm for a certain day. Or App integrated task like, play a certain song on your smart speaker. However, for information or generative tasks Gemini is way better. I just wish they would combine both and automatically dictate what tasks/query/prompt goes where. There should be an AI for that.

In terms of build quality, specs, screen quality, Samsung is the top dog. I compared the screen on my iPad Pro M4 to my ZF7 the IPP tandem oled screen looks like garbage.
