I'm not saying you should care I was just informing the person I quoted.

Cool, i didnt mean it to sound like i was being a douche. Just for me, i dont need to transfer apps to my card. I have dedicated space in the phone for those.

Android is a different animal no doubt and the convenience of iPhone is justified but using Android isnt hard. Its just different and once you get it, you will be fine. Like someone above said you wil lose songs you bought on iTunes. Not true. Double twist and an App called "Easy Phone Tunes" BOTH read your music from iTunes and transfer it over. It doesnt matter if you bought it or not. If it is in iTunes, those will get it.

kinda missing the point, the whole point was the fact that he was saying there was no such problem, as people have said, there is a fix, but it's not universally done yet. that was all. had nothing to do with how hard it is or anything.

anyway, with the iPhone, i have 32Gb, more than enough room and no need to faff about with having stuff on internal memory and stuff on memory cards :)

Just like any other platform, it takes time for the uptake of new features.

I saw words like "limitations" and "restrictions" thrown around for enabling this feature. Not so, in reality.

limitations and restrictions were said by me before someone said that in a recent update this was not the case, it was then clarified that it was not universal and that developers had to enable it and that not all had. technically there is a limitation to if you can do it with some apps if the developer has not put that code in though obviously. anyway it was more about the fact that tarzanman was spouting inaccurate information that there was no such problem, thats all.

again, the other poster was saying that androids do not need a computer to sync and then started on how bad iTunes was, and without it iPhone people would be screwed. again as you have mentioned, you cannot import all songs into iTunes, as i was saying alot of people have had iTunes for a long time, having iPods and that, so would still have the protected AAC ones. so you cannot use all of it, and you still need to sync it. also we have the advantage of getting songs through itunes right on the device and can either copy it back via syncing or just by checking for available downloads :) can't do that on an android.

You have to admit that the iPhone out of the box requires a computer to activate. Afterwards, yes you don't need a computer except to do software updates. Android devices do not require computer activation and software updates come over the air. I do miss buying iTunes directly from the device, but in a pinch I can buy music directly from Amazon. I think Amazon is a little cheaper actually. It works the same as the iPhone, but I'm so accustomed to using iTunes from my computer. Steve has programmed me well.

the app store has more apps than the android market, we have big variation.

That is a definite plus for the iPhone. I was able to find identical copies of all my iPhone apps in the Android market. The only exception being a fully functional Evernote. There is an Evernote app and it works, but they have a ways to go to make it work as well as the iPhone version. They have recently hired more developers specifically to work on Android apps. As far as the quantity of apps in the stores...well don't be surprised when it swings the other way. It's a simple matter of there will be more Android devices available so the developer's will go for what pays the bills. Don't get me wrong the App Store will continue to thrive, but Android market is going to explode. There are just too many Android devices flying off the shelves now.

not necessarily, my friend got his from the apple store, it was activated in store, up and running there and then. he didn't have a computer at the time, so bought music via the itunes store and apps via the app store. so really it is quite feasable to have an iphone and not sync at all, like any other phone. as for software updates over the air, i'm fairly certain that this will come into effect soon, with all this talk of cloud based itunes, etc, it wouldn't be that much harder to do over the air updates.

well the android market does have a fair way to go to catch up though. plus with the app store process, the quality of the apps isn't a worry (quality as in i can be confident that nothing is gonna steal my details) with the fact that apps can be obtained outside of the market place for android, alot of bog standard people could easily get an app that will screw them. not everyone knows what to look for unlike alot of people on these type of forums.

Hope so. Having to tether via wire is so 1990s.

I had no problem finding all the major apps I use, from eBay to USAToday to Slingplayer, on the Android market.

Android even has some apps that iOS does not have, such as Goggles and Google Navigation.

Widgets and live wallpapers are an additional benefit.

Your confidence is based on a false premise. Apple's cursory app store review can't stop apps that do more than what they advertise. Just look at the WiFi hotspot a kid snuck in. Or the tip calculator that was sending the user's Contacts to someplace in China. Who knows what else is hidden?

with the fact that apps can be obtained outside of the market place for android, alot of bog standard people could easily get an app that will screw them. not everyone knows what to look for unlike alot of people on these type of forums.

See above, it already has happened with the iPhone. At least on Android, you can be suspicious if a tip calculator asks for access to your Contacts. IOS apps give no such permission warning ahead of time.

Goggles is coming for iPhone. Navigation isn't as google said they're not doing it for iPhone sadly. But really, the fact we get any google apps is bonus as android peepscwould never get an iTunes app.

Widgets and live wallpaper do not bother me, live wallpaper wastes battery.

I can't think of any apple branded apps that there isn't already a superior alternative to on android (mobileme? don't make me laugh).

iPhone users always talk bad about a feature their phone doesn't have... right up until the iphone gets it (copy and paste, tethering, etc). Whether you use it or not, it is yet another feature that your platform lacks. No one cares if you have a preference, but make sure you have your facts straight... iOS is less robust and has less features. The only thing it beats Android in is restrictions.

Accept it/move on.

I already did, iTunes. I can remotely buy songs on the go and they download on my pc too, or they can be copied by syncing. You can't do that on android. As for mobile me, just cos you don't like it doesn't mean it's nit that good. You just hate all things apple that it blinds you. I'm not saying mobile me is great, but I have friends that like it and use it a lot, the one fester I like about mobile me is find my iPhone, that would be handy. You don't have an equivalent to that.

Lol iOS is more stable than android. Android can be slow and laggy. I don't want live wallpapers, waste of battery. Windows did live wallpaper, it wasn't that popular. Tons of people wanted copy&paate, we got it, people were then happy. If you're so happy with android, why waste your time on an iPhone forum???

Not iTunes, but Amazon does the same for Android.

Let's not go there. Mobile Me has a lot of potential, but after using it for several years I was happy to let my last subscription expire. It it were free or $25 a year then maybe, but $99 ($60 with a hardware purchase) is just crazy expensive.

I would say neither are perfect. I distinctly recall many frustrating incidents over the years with iOS. Let's just say the both are much better now than in the past.

LOL! I said a computer...not a particular one. :p

The ipod functionality w/ itunes integration in the iPhone blows away the media capabilities of every android phone.

Accept is move blah blah blah stop saying that like a damn broken record

My Vibrant can play ogg, wav, mp3, divx, xvid, mkv, h.264, mp4 and others natively at any aspect ratio without needing 3rd party software and without needing to convert the file or drag it into itunes for transfer.

If you would, please explain to me how iPhone "blows it away"

Best user interface. Don't take my word on that, google iPhone reviews as far back as the first one.

My digital music is in mp3 or aac, and my videos are encoded in mp4... so I have no need for those other codecs, especially on a mobile device. Anyways, the iPhone has the highest res screen you can get on a phone, much higher than the vibrant. Why would you want to watch an mkv file on your lower res screen? But sure, I understand why you'd need to watch a movie on it while you're waiting for its broken GPS to find your location.

You have a Vibrant... now I understand your bitterness.

Edit: You're so critical on the iPhone yet take one look at this vibrant review and try and convince me that that interface is not ugly and laggy as hell
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2uXwWZHhXE. The phone is loaded with bloatware even! http://chris.pirillo.com/new-motorola-droid-x-and-samsung-vibrant-full-of-bloatware/

what's wrong with having a 3rd party app for stuff? an app is still an app wether its made by the people that make android or by someone making it for the market place. we have oPlayer on the iphone which can play all of those formats on it and you don't need to convert them or drag them into itunes either. you're trying to make comparisons whilst imposing daft restrictions because you know that if you don't put a restriction on your question, you would be wrong. get over yourself. why do you feel the need to come on an iPhone forum to try and get people to think androids are the second coming, do you have nothing better to do??

To attempt to convince someone to buy a phone I wouldn't say is the best advice. I will say however after owning several other platforms including Symbian OS devices, Windows Mobile, Manufacture default software phones and Android handsets, my decision was made.

I will say after getting an Iphone I could never move to another platform, the setup, the ease of use, the build quality and just sheer usability I could never move to another platform.

+1

Couldnt agree more, especially the 2nd paragraph :)

Yes we can. We have (on the Galaxy S phones anyways) a Amazon icon that goes directly to their music section. Works just like iTunes but i hardly buy music anyways. I got most of mine from my own CD's or from the library.

Dont know why there is arguing going on here. iPhone is a good device, it just isnt customizable as Android even if you jailbreak it. Android is a good system that is rapidly getting even better. Yes this is a Apple forum and some just arent informed enough to know what Android can do and thats ok. iPhone is a good phone and i loved mine and am not going to get rid of it, but i dont use it anymore. IMO Android within a year will be blowing iPhone's OS away. Just what i feel because i only have 2.1 and feel it is right there already.

I really don't get this type of questions. Many make feature comparison here, but it's the wrong approach.

iPhone makes sleek, stylish devices which are beautiful inside and outside. iPhone has taste. Pride.

And Android devices? Oh, they sure may be much more customizable, they have widgets and all that, but comparing them to Apple's elegant design is ridiculous.

Just put an iPhone next to Gnusmas Galaxxy S and you'll get it.

Sometimes I think I'm not even on a forum about the iPhone.

Anyhow, I had a Galaxy S for a while. Kinda miss it, but I'll just list a few things here that iPhone does better.

iPod > Whatever is on Galaxy S, Vibrant etc. The music player on Galaxy S is a piece of crap, really. Can't skip music with the included headset, can't fast forward, reverse, nothing. I did download a few apps that could do this but it was wonky at best, I had to try several times before it would skip to the next song instead of just pause it. This was incredibly annoying because I had to fight my headset while I was on my bike. When I use my iPhone I hold the button on the headset, say "play playlist André, shuffle" and it does that. It takes no effort whatsoever and it just works.

Games. Android version of Worms? Nope. Let's Golf 2? Nope. Plants vs Zombies? Nope. Duke Nukem 3D? Nope. Peggle? Nope. Angry Birds? Nope. And the list goes on and on.

Photography. Now, the stock photo app on Galaxy S blows away Apples own. However, let's talk about apps. I haven't found a good app for panoramas for Android. So, Pano? Nope. AutoStitch? Nope. Tiltshift then? Nope. TrueHDR? Nope. And so on.

Music then. On the iPhone you have hundreds of fantastic apps. Virtual guitars, synthesizers, drum-machines and so on. I haven't managed to find any such apps in the Market. And those I saw were crap.

Please do prove me wrong, because sooner or later I am going to buy an Android phone and I want good apps on it. I'll most likely buy the Galaxy Tab later on.

Now, I don't want to be insanely biased or anything. So here's more...

Android does a few things better. An actual homescreen that is customizable. It's fun to customize, you can make it yours. The notification area is absolutely brilliant and I miss it a lot. You can replace the stock apps if you don't like them. Flash in the browser and so on. The gallery is fantastic and could play almost anything I threw at it. Images aren't saved at a lower resolution when sent to the phone and.. Gif files are animated! Hooray!

Android is good at some things, but iPhone has a ton of quality apps that add features to the iPhone that Android just does not have right now. I tried for a long time to find alternative versions of the apps I use every day but just couldn't find them, and I only had one game on my Galaxy S I thought was worth my time. And that was before I had to root the damn thing then install some update.zip file to even access the paid apps.

They're both good at plenty of things. Just get one or the other and be happy. It's insanely annoying that this place is filled to the brim with haters who seem to come here just to say how crappy the iPhone is. Don't you have better things to do?

And that is the RIGHT approach? Sure LOOKS good when you are dropping calls. But as long as it looks good doing it , well then thats all that matters....LOL. Seems you chose your phone for the wrong reasons

We all know Apps are lacking on Android, particularly in the Games section. But they will get better and Angry Birds is in the process of being developed for Android right now. Apples App store has had a huge headstart so no kidding it is going to have more at this point and there are a few that i miss that i can t get but for the most part, ive been able to get the same ones i used on iPhone.

As for the headset, true it only pauses. I dont use the stock headsets anyways. Didnt like Apples at all so for me, it isnt an issue. I can see it being an issue for some though. Other than that, i like the stock music player and think the 5.1 sounds awesome!
