The Tab is no worse than the iPad. They are both overgrown versions of their respective phones.

The 'next' (as you put it) version of Android isn't the answer... the current version is. Android as an ecosystem already offers more features and more devices than iOS. That is what has allowed Android's growth to explode in the past year.

As an side (in response to an earlier post) few people I know hate Apple. Its Apple's fanboys and acolytes (and the accompanying detachment from objective/rational thought) that they actually dislike. Criticizing Uncle Steve just happens to be the easiest way to annoy them back.

There are a few reasons why android is growing rapidly:
1. os is free
2. it is better than window 6.0 or better
3. many manufactures hop on the bandwagon
4. there are over 100 android smartphones out there
5. These manufactures have a great outlet of channels of retails
6. Some telcos don't have iPhone as a choice

Last year is the year or the rise of androids. This year, iOS will strike back. However, it is going to take a few measures for apple to take back its lead.

1. all telcos need to carry the iPhone
2. need more factories to produce the iPhone

I read foxconn has opened up two more factories for such that. verizon will start soon as you know. I think iPhone 5 will be on all telcos in Us. So, I think by 2013, apple iPhone will be number world wide.

This has got to be one of the most pointless stories around. It's one of those way-too-common articles that makes you think something is important by using really big numbers and words.

Android increased it's share 10-fold to 22 percent. Really? It's amazing that a company went from having no tablets with its OS a year ago to almost none later and now a bit more than almost none. This is a brand new market that literally did not exist a year ago. Apple has dominated the market because it was first, and probably best. These other companies jump in and with newer products are obviously going to play catch-up.

It's quite easy to have a gaudy multiplication of your market share if you have none. If I had one tablet with my name on it last year and now had 15, that would mean I increased MY market share by 1,500 percent. Android had nowhere to go but up, Apple had nowhere to go but down.

Just like the older iPhones and older iPods? Don't kid yourself, it's like that all over.

I'm not talking older phones which aren't getting updates, I'm talking about slightly newer phones that are not getting update, take for example Sony Ericsson Xperia X8. Even if they're getting, they'll get an older version when the new one's already out.

And when it comes to older iDevices, they aren't getting updates because the hardware isn't capable (I'm talking about iOS 4). Same with Andriod, I ain't complaining about that. I'm talking about newer Android phones aren't getting update.

Plus, they were just looking at that quarter, not cumalative. Apple sold 7.3 mil and supposedly galaxy tab sold 2.1 mil. Total sales: 9.4 mil. 2.1 mil is 22 %. If it was cumalative, galaxy tablet makes up 14% and iPad 86%.

There are intelligent people and those that are clued-in use apple products. Those that are clueless will jump to conclusions. I am happy to know that there are fellow apple users like above poster who have some common sense and can see past the smoke and mirrors.

You can go buy whatever you like. But if android devices were so hot, you'd see 10% of the accessories made for apple devices made for android devices. BMW, Mercedes, B&O, B&W, man, top big name companies making big name products to support iDevices. The last time I tried to get something for my non-apple device, it was in the bargain bin and the isle next to the power strip/UPS section.

Again I will say for sure if the Xoom has what they show in the demo to offer, I'm not gonna even get out of the iPad line for this xoom.

You're gonna have to do better than throw raw specs and give me an untested UI.

Haters gonna hate...

Android is good stuff.

Very true. Android will push Apple & it's win/win for all. You can't beat that.

The only losers are the ones that work so hard to express their hatred. The toxic effect is on them.

For those of us that are open minded there's lots to enjoy in both platforms.

You do realise USA sales are not even 1/3e of the total worldwide smartphone sales?

That in order to achieve this it would have to quadrouple sales?

That people have all sort of reasons to buy a certain smartphone and the best for them isnt always an iphone?

Not going to happen, apple wil maintain a little under its current marketshare by 2013 .

I know! Just between ATT and Verizon, there are almost 200 million users. I am also saying China. Apple is only on one carrier there too. Plus, apple has sold 90 million iPhones as of sept. 2010. Apple predict that they can sell 100 million iPhones in 2011. So, between 2007 and 2010, apple sold 90 million. If apple were to sell 100 million in 2011, how many will apple sell by end of 2013? 300 million or more plus the 90 mil+16.2mil (dec. qtr). Roughly: 400 mil+++.

who care about droid?

I have had enough trouble with bad computing equipment to last a million lifetimes. I went through two years of training at a technical school on networking and such before my revelation. I guess there are some people who really like knowing how to set all of that crap up, but it now seems like a bunch of hooey to me.

I'm glad a bunch of people are trying out different tablet types, but it'll take something major to shift me away from Apple. My mom has a friend who for some reason keeps on buying Windows-based stuff even though I have explained the simplicity of Apple stuff. It's her money, but guess who goes to fix stuff when it goes wrong? Yup.

I really liked the point you made about all the computer specs. Man, how I used to think that crap mattered so much. There's nothing wrong with a lot of power under the hood, but do you know how often most of us need it? I've got the latest iMac and could care less that it's *only* an i3 processor. Do you know how much faster this is at compiling video than my C2D MacBook Pro that died? Do you know how much easier it is to use iMovie than the software I had on a PC about 8 years ago?

None of that spec stuff matters if the OS isn't to your liking. I've come to expect stuff from Apple that just works. I have a 4-cylinder Toyota Camry. It's the first 4-cylinder car I have ever owned after a few that had 8 and 6. Do you think I care most of the time that I don't have the extra power for like five seconds after I start moving? No. Knock on wood, but I've had no major issues with that car that didn't involve a bad driver hitting me. If that keeps up, I don't care what all is under the hood because I REALLY don't know anything about making cars work. I'm at the mileage now where my past two cars needed rebuilt trannies. If I make it many more miles without needing that, yay.

One final point is even Google has said the Android OS isn't optimized for tablets yet. Considering that Windows' major problem on PCs is it has to support 15 bajillion different pieces of hardware, that's kind of a big deal! These tablet makers are rushing something out there that may or may not be ready. I hope for the buyers that it is, but damn that's risky.

With the amount of PC's used in business around the world today and the tiny amount of Mac's being used, I'm amazed, after reading your post that the whole planet does not collapse some time this afternoon!

What a great argument.

You see there is a percentage, I'm not sure how much, who just like and want Apple products to be expensive, and also hate to see them in major consumer stores.

It's the I've got something you can't afford, hence it's better thinking.

It's normally insecure people who are lacking in other areas of their lives, on the inside, that feel this way. they may have a great job, a lot of money, but they still feel they need to prove themselves to others by the items they own.

It's a shame really.

While you're right about the shares, I believe the real profitable market of the smartphone sales is still in the USA and Canada. I have a Nokia phone and a cheap Android that are technically smartphones but sold at about 1/4 - 1/5 of an iPhone. The real unit growth of smartphone will occur from low cost Android phones eating into the featurephone market. Many won't even notice they have a smartphone even if they are using one as many current Symbian and Blackberry users are right now.
