I was a long term Android user, going back as far as the G1, but now I have taken the plunge and bought an XS Max.

I'm not new to iOS however, I own an iPad pro 9.7.

My XS Max will be arriving later today and I'll obviously be looking to set it up properly straight away.

I'll be using 'move to iOS' to transfer messages from Galaxy S8. I know that I need to set up iPhone up as a new phone to do this.

The trouble is I would like to also restore contacts, notes, alarms etc from back up. Can this be done after from iTunes for example? I'm not at home right now so can't check iTunes

Sorry for the newbie questions, the thought just dawned on me that I might not be able to do both. I did have a quick search but couldn't find anything.

Thanks

Move to iOS transfers contacts, message history, camera photos and videos, web bookmarks, mail accounts, and calendars.

If by "I would like to also restore contacts, notes, alarms etc from back up" you mean your iPad backup - as long as your devices are set to the same AppleID they will keep their content in sync (provided you turned sync on in iCloud settings). This also applies to your computer.
