    Hi all..

I'm looking to seriously start switching...... i think the time has come, as iphone screen and/or feature set too crippled. I don't mind this on the iPad though.

Its also the main reason why i refuse to browse on a 3.5 inch, because while graphics, and movies look ok, text is far too small....

Why would you wanna zoom in to read text on ever single webpage ? Yet, this is why i do everything FROM my ipad.

In any case, i'm looking at the a unlocked Android Galaxy Note 2 .....

    Recommendations ?

I could actually "see" myself using a 5.3-incher, than a a 3.5-inch iPhone 4s, which is used noting more for than phone calls due to the screen size.

That is one thing,, the other is of course features. So, even though resolutions of the iPhone 4s, is great, the screen is too small, for me anyway, for practical use than just phone calls.

I understand. For the first time i'm seriously considering a switch to Android for phones. iOS is lagging way behind the competition. If apple doesn't step it up on the software front with iOS7 i'm probably going to go ahead and make the switch.

I would really hate to do this as it would completely break the mac ecosystem I have going in my office.

Do you need a phone? If you do not and your main need is browsing and texting, maybe consider the iPad mini or Nexus 7? Don't get me wrong, the Note 2 is a great device, but if you really do not need the phone part there may be other options.

    I need the phone part.....

Just a bigger device, this is why i'm thinking of an android. as i use the ipad for everything else.

However, the issue was maybe if i had a bigger phone, i would slowly start using it from my "iPad only things" rather than be put off by the fact the screen of the iphone was too small.

I have a SGS3 and a nexus 4, I would recommend them both in a heartbeat. I have been reading great things about the Sony Xperia Z, beautiful big screen, water resistant, may be worth a look, the SGS4 is rumoured to be announced in March sometime if you can wait a bit longer. You wont go far wrong with a Note 2 either.

If you want to try to phase out the iPad and mostly use your phone, I can getting a Note 2, though I'm not sure on release scheduling if it might be better to wait a month or 2 and see comes out, maybe even a Note 3.

As a side thought, I don't get why people feel the iPhone is too restricting, but find iOS is perfectly fine on the iPad. I'm the exact opposite. I feel as though on the smaller less powerful device, I prefer it be limited to help with performance, stability, and battery life, while on a larger more powerful device I want it more open and capable.

Because you use macs and the iTunes/iCloud ecosystem and not them. Like me. My jailbroken iPhone finally feels much less restrictive to me.

Also, the stock multi tasking is clunky. One week with auxo + Zephyr combined and i cannot imagine using the stupid double click method and press and hold method anymore. Ugh.

That could be different when it comes to a tablet because i use a tablet differently from a smartphone. However, i would say iPads are restrictive in 2011, when i had to use handbrake religiously to convert stuff and waste hours of my time doing so. Now that i have Oplayer, Goodplayer, and AVPlayer HD (yes i bought three apps, because there is always an odd occurrence that a file will not be played by one or two of those) i am ok. However i am still going to jailbreak the mini once i get it so i can simply drag and drop stuff without going through iTunes file sharing which is slower and extra steps on my PC.

Didn't expect it but since getting a Note 2 I am finding myself using my iPad less and less. The Note 2 is just big enough, for me, to make that happen.

This morning decided to use the iPad to read the news. I can't believe how much of a pain it seemed like with no dedicated back button--and having to reach all the way up to the upper left-hand corner to tap the on-screen one (if available). Think I am going to sell it and either just use the N2 or get a 7-8" tablet (I don't think the iPad mini would be as cumbersome).

    You've summed it up nicely.

I'd love an iPhone with a 4.8" display like my Galaxy S3, but Apple seems to have some fear around a full size highly useful display.

My Note II is even better thanks to all that Android can do.

I get that stuff, I have my iPhone jailbroken too, and auxo+zephyr is an AWESOME combo. Add Accelerate, lockinfo, and styleunlock and i think the navigation on the iPhone is just about perfect. What I meant was people find the iPhone restricting but not the iPad, and thats what I don't get since they are both restricting but I find the iPad being restricted more frustrating than the iPhone.
