You don't need to buy eagles. Just wait to unlock levels you don't need to pay for that either. People who only own an iPhone don't want to pay for universal app. If they were going to sell a universal app for $3 then what is the difference to sell iPhone version for $1 and iPad version for $2? There is no difference.

Because they know iOS users actually pay for content?

(Not a slam against Android - just look up numbers that any multi-platform developer has released.).

They charge $X because they know we will pay $X.
Yup. The biggest is reason is that they'll make more money by displaying ads on the Android version rather than selling it. But you can also pay 2.99 for ads-free version.

----------

This is an irritation to me (the whole free on Android, paid on iOS), which is why I voted it 1 star and will continue until they get the point.
They're doing what gives them the best revenue. It's more profitable for them to give you a free version with ads on Android, then it's to sell it.

They have a free version on both platforms, the free versions are just ad supported. They're still making their money, just not from you.

The paid version is simply "play the game without ads".

It's not "simply play the game without ads". I don't know about Angry Birds: Space, but for regular Angry Birds, the free version on iOS is a sample of about 25 levels with ads, and the free version on Android is the full game with ads. Big difference between 25 levels and 400+ (I think? I've never actually counted how many levels there are).

I am perfectly fine with paying $3 to buy this game on my new iPad so I don't have ads included. What I am slightly more concerned about is the $.99 in app purchase of the danger zone. Hopefully this is the only paid DLC and all future updates are free to iOS version purchasers. When I was checking up on the free android version out of curiosity I saw it reported that Samsung phones get early access to the 30-level Danger Zone DLC for free. Does this mean that it will be free for everyone eventually once Samsung's paid exclusivity period is up?

Angry Birds and Cut the Rope are my prime examples of how 'franchise' games shouldn't be done. Mainly, the notion of multiple apps. Nothing is more annoying than downloading the free version to try out a game and then have to redownload it in a paid version and replay all the levels because your score doesn't transfer since it's a different app. Or having 12 apps on your device that are just different level sets of the same game. Put it all in one app. Have some free levels and then an IAP for the rest or to turn off ads etc. That's one of the main reasons IAP was even added (not like some games think which is charging us to take turns in a game).

It's cleaner, tidier and you will still gross planet loads of money.

Only ads I see are Rovio ads promoting their own products. I don't see a Netflix ad or ads to make your penis grow 12 inches.

So what if they're Rovio ads; they're still ads. I paid for the game and there shouldn't be any ads. If I want to try out the free version, I should see ads because there's a chance I'm not familiar with the paid version - that's what ads do, they advertise the opportunity to buy something. If I already bought the game, I don't need the ad.

I don't what the big deal is with a company advertising their own products. They're not intrusive, they're on the pause screen. People complain too much....

I was promised no ads if I paid for the app and that promise was broken. Yes, it's a minor thing but it chips away at your impression of a company.

Look at Angry Birds Space. Now you have to pay for extra eagles and to unlock extra levels. If the game was advertised as "bigger and better" and the price was slightly higher than $0.99, then I think most of us would have happily paid it. Not to mention the ads...

I should point out that even Rovio doesn't call them ads, they call it "news" because even they know that the ads shouldn't be there but I guess they're too greedy to keep them out.

So you'd be OK if when your car was idling, an ad for another model of the same make popped up on your windshield? Only when the car is parked of course, so it's not intrusive?

The whole point of ads in electronic content is that's price you pay for it being offered for free. I admit I have better things to worry about, but can you at least acknowledge that the ads shouldn't be there?

Then don't buy it. Simple enough.

It's really great and impressive achievement but not impossible. But true to say i am not so fan of this game! Dont know why but doesn't attract me much. LOL!

A developer's loyalty lies with the money....

that being said, Rovio reported profits from one month of ad-supported android downloads surpassed almost an entire year of paid Ios downloads. this was big news across the internet a few months back. do you all ever leave macrumors, lol? the iPhone, which I also develop for, has superior gaming apps but that's about it. if you look at maximizing dollars based on volume of phones, Apple loses. Rovio has proven that developers make more money from ad based apps so plan on continuing to get screwed by Apple because they charge developers to put apps in the store before they sell anything.
