I think it's time for a well-respected tech site to do a "state of IOS games" piece. I recently purged a bunch of games from my iOS devices and realized the only ones I really enjoy are simple, quick-play casual types like THREES and TWO DOTS.

How many more "sling X at Y" types do we need? Or runners? Jetpack Joyride, Doodle Jump, Temple Run...all have the same mechanic.

I am digging the new Madden game, however. Dare I say EA did something right, for once?

Um... Jetpack Joyride, Doodle Jump, and Temple Run *don't* have the same mechanics. They're part of the same overall genre, but they share little *if anything* in the way of mechanics.

Jetpack Joyride: Touch/don't touch to control.
Doodle Jump: Tilt to control.
Temple Run: Swipe to control.

After the first few levels, I'm not especially impressed. Would prefer more levels added to Angry Birds Star Wars II.

Let me add some context to this thread:

I pretty much agree with everyone that Rovio are milking Angry Birds and I've never been overly keen on the theme...however...if you had as much success with a game such as Angry Birds wouldn't you milk it?

I know I certainly would.

So I downloaded this game (free) and played it for a while. It is pretty decent. However, it is absolutely infested with ads. And as you go higher in level, the ads get more and more intrusive. I gave up and deleted the game.
