Animated GIF help!

Greetings!

Is there any way to save an animated gif onto the desktop, and have it play continually ON THE DESKTOP. I know you can open them in safari, quicktime, etc, but check out this video:

There is also a program for windows users that puts a gif on the desktop animated:

Can you do that on a mac??
