Animation help with Flash CS4.

Hello everyone. I am quite new to Adobe Flash CS4, but have limited experience. When animating, the cartoon I'm making comes out looking very, "Flash-e". Meaning fixed lines, vibrant colors, etc. Now I have been reading up on a show called "Home Movies" and I've read that they used Flash to edit their show for the last three seasons. Im wondering how to I get my cartoon looking more like that and less "Flash-e?". Thanks for the help.

Maybe your talking about shading? I've seen the use of instead of using the included lines, you use a black shape behind it. You can of course create images in photoshop and import and animate them in flash. I just checked out home movies and they seem to use very thin lines so I would try that.

How would i use shading? Would i manually put a black shape behind it because that doesnt seem like it would help the Flashyness of the cartoon.
