Animoji (facial detection) vs. other technology

I have been using Animoji on and off since launch. I have not been overly impressed with the face tracking/lip syncing.

A while back I had a lot of fun with the App Yap (I guess it is no longer available but the company is here https://www.yapme.com/)

Has anyone else tried this? The face tracking/lip syncing on Yap seemed to work better than Animoji, and that was using the regular iPhone front facing camera (this was probably on the 6 and 6s).

Anyone else tried this? Agree with my assessment that the lip tracking seems like it should work better?

This app has an Animoji function for non X phones, but it’s a bit jittery.
