I have a question for you guys...
I just got my iPhone X today & have been playing with Animojis.
It’s fun, but my issue is that- if I’m holding my face perfectly still, the image is still “shuddering” is the best way I can describe it. It responds fine to my facial expressions, but... as I say, it looks like my face is slightly vibrating when I’m holding stone still.
I’m hoping there isn’t a hardware issue with my front facing camera array.
Face ID has been working stellar. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?
If not- I suppose I’ll try a full restore to attempt a recalibration, and if that doesn’t work, request a replacement.
Suggestions or advice beyond that?

Redo your FaceID scan. See if that works.

This actually helped a lot...
Still- kinda weird.... like if I am looking at the rooster & holding still, I still see a minor lip quiver- like someone that’s trying not to cry. Lol, I’m probably going to have to get a replacement.

Nope, no shaking or quivering here. Even when I shake the phone, the tracking seems to be anchored on my face.

These phones are being produced in record pace. Variations in the tolerances of the modules are likely. If it bothers you, and is easily reproduced, take it to a genius for a swap.

There are a bunch of threads on this issue. I was experiencing the animoji shudder as well at first but not lately. The more you use Face ID the better it learns your face, could be why animoji hasn't shuddered for me lately.

Interesting. I just tried mine and mine is fine. As still as a statue.

Is your screen dirty or greasy by the IR notch?

This is false. Apple has refuted this. https://www.imore.com/yes-animoji-uses-truedepth-camera-system-iphone-x?amp=

As far as the shuddering goes, I have only witnessed this when I'm in low light. When in brighter settings there is no shuddering.

It does not use Face ID technology in the sense that what face is saved to the device is irrelevant. So re-learning your face is not going to make a differences.

I only get significant quivering if the lighting is bad. In a well-lit room it’s just fine (small, almost unnoticeable quiver).

It’s interesting also that blinking both eyes works and is translated to the Animoji as a full blink. However, blinking one eye doesn’t fully blink the single Animoji eye. Also, you can’t close both eyes and have that appear on the Animoji, either. Gen. 2 will feature this. :D

I have to disagree with the blinking thing. I specifically tested it and it does capture separate eyes for me.

Well I must have two defective phones, then. It does not capture a full blink of each individual eye in my testing. It’s more of a squint for individual eyes, and a full blink when it’s both eyes.

Please provide a video of it if yours works differently. Because I don’t believe it. :p

Also, it does seem to close both eyes if you’re not wearing glasses. It’s a squint with glasses on (which is odd).

However, single eye blink/closed isn’t happening either way. It’s just a single-eye mega-squint.

Oh, I see your point now. It does register each individual eye, but it’s not fully closed. That’s correct!
