A better question would be what is a US made alternative at any price. It wouldn't be a similar price if one existed but I don't think there is such a creature. Maybe you could have one custom made at an electronic shop but IDK.
I’d love to buy a USA made battery pack. Was really hoping Teslas cellphone battery charger was made in USA but nope. Made in China and insanely priced.

Till then - LiPo batteries are amazing. I won’t be buying anything but that. Unfortunately only the big battery packs have those. Hopefully they get smaller soon.

My 256 wh Powerhouse is LiPo. 3000 cycle life. And can stay at 100% with no loss of health. Future of batteries. :)

better report them to amazon CS, they take care of it. I had a problem with the seller when I didn't change the review and tried to get my account banned. Protect yourself
I’ve found Amazon customer support to be terrible. For example, I reported an Amazon seller that was marking up Walmart items and then having Walmart ship it. Never heard a word back about it despite it being clearly prohibited by Amazon.

Was going to say ... lol. Anker is a pretty respected brand name. It's been around for awhile. Their products are pretty good. (And I didn't get paid or get paid to say this). I also frequent these forums and haven't seen it here, so not sure where "almost everyone" is coming from. lol.
Yea this is the first time I ever heard of an Anker product doing this. Everything I've bought has been graat except for one wall charger just didn't work. They replaced it with a newer model for no additional cost.

I've got a similar battery - Model: A1290 (737) - the 26k version of this. It's been a powerhouse (no pun intended) for me. Very cool despite being able to output at 60w. I've never felt it hot, even though I charge it with my MBP chargers and use it to power my MBP sometimes.

I've used a lot of Anker batteries over the last 10+ years. I've had really good results with their batteries and technology. Still using one of their LED laps now for 6? years.

I'm a huge battery hobbyist and I've given several dozen of these batteries to people I know (gives me an excuse to buy another one). Never had a problem with a battery overheating or anything - had some of the USB ports not work on one, but Anker fixed it via warranty without question.

I've been wanting one of their 1500w Powerhouse 757 models really bad for California power outages but it's a bit out of my wallet range. I have the Powerhouse 521 with the LiPO batteries and use it every day to offload my office power during 4-9pm.
The larger capacity can output the same wattage at a lower value of "C" and hence less warming.

C is the ratio between output current and maximum capacity, so a C of 1 would be an average 1A output for a nominal 1Ah battery.

eg.. A 3600mAh 18650 Cell could discharge 3.6 Amps at 1C. But two of the same batteries in parallel would discharge at 0.5C.

While not a direct comparison to the above example because of parallel serial design, of these two batteries, the one with a capacity of 10,000 would be likely discharging at a 2.6 higher "C" rating than the 26,000 capacity battery hence the 26k will be generally cooler at the same wattage.

Isn't this just the nature of Lithium cells?
[…]
I don't think we know how to make lithium cells yet with a 0% chance of catching fire.
The specific battery chemistry makes a big difference. However, there are often cost or density trade offs. Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePo) is a lot more durable but is much lower density. Lithium Titanate is the most promising I’ve seen that is actually available and used in products.

Mine looks just like the pictures in the article, but is labelled "PowerCore Essential 20000 PD" and the (difficult to read) battery part number doesn't match what is shown on their website. Guess I'm ok then...

When I looked at getting a Anker power bank and was going to get one but decided to get a unbranded cheaper power bank and see if it worked glad I got the unbranded now has worked perfectly

I got this exact power bank about 2 months ago specifically for my oversea trip back in December. I used it daily for about a month and has been working fine. I filed for the refund with Anker yesterday and today Amazon sent me an email about the refund.

Maybe that unbranded model has caught on fire but since customers have no recourse you’ll have no way of knowing. At least with established brands sold not only online but brick and mortar there’s some degree of accountability and announcements like this post when a recall arises.

Wait, I’m confused here. Their customer service went above and beyond for you and their products have always been great to include the printer that you said you read about people having problems but never had problems yourself.

So all of your experiences have been positive, but since you’ve read other people say they had bad experiences that causes you to have negative feelings.

It just seems like everyone is jumping on the I dislike Anker bandwagon because someone else said to do it. They like the products but everyone saying it’s bad so so it must be bad. i’ve heard of social pressure when it comes to iPhone versus android but I’ve never heard of social pressure about charging product brands. This is a very interesting topic to me.
Since you're interested, here's more detail, lol.

First of all, that was a really long time ago. LIke maybe 2016 or 2017. Since then they've been caught red-handed with this video streaming debacle. They've also massively expanded into a bunch of subsidiaries which may be part of the issue.

I've seen photo after photo after photo of people with broken 3D printer hot ends because they put really sub-par screws into their devices that snap and many have cross threaded nozzles. I haven't had to replace my nozzle yet but expect to have problems. We'll see. Someone even made a downloadable model of a block to help hold your hot end so it won't get damaged during nozzle swaps. Seems like a problem. Mine is starting to get worn down. I don't 3D print 24/7 and mainly use the more standard PLA+ and PLA Pro so it's not too abrasive but I have enough hours on the machine now that I'm going to try doing a nozzle swap soon, maybe this weekend. My point is before I would never hear about so many issues with their stuff and now it's more common, including this battery recall. Also it's ridiculous to sell a 3D printer but not have any replacement parts available at launch, much less months later. 3D printers are notorious for breaking down because of all the mechanical parts and speeds and movement and heat involved. They're not thinking things through. Also, in my experience, their software has been pretty glitchy (the AI component that analyzes for errors was giving so many false positive notifications per minute and yet not when it turned to actual spaghetti that they ended up disabling it by default) and they cheaped out with a resistive touch screen. They also said it can use other filaments but haven't provided any hardened nozzles to support it and because they used a proprietary nozzle size there haven't been any available from third parties so far.

in exchanged for a good review? this happens a lot on amazon with Chinese companies, if you leave a negative review , they contact you offering a refund and keep the item asking you to change your review...
For the record they didn't ask for a better review after that. I didn't change my review either except to note what they did to fix it. I have given them good reviews for other products but it's all based on the merit of the product, but this was like 5 years ago when I had a series of issues with a few of their products (I had bought a bunch of different things). Nothing major but their response was disproportionately customer friendly compared to my issue.

Can’t believe that people not long ago used to strongly recommend this brand everywhere I looked, now almost everyone is saying to stay away from them. I don’t know what happened. 🙁

Anker was always just good branding. People trusted the ‘name’ (which as we can see means absolutely nothing). It’s the same quality as any other semi-large battery bank makers out there. Overpriced too…

That is one thing that I didn't like about Anker. They upped their prices like a year or two ago - quite a bit. They used to be a lot cheaper. My guess is people aren't buying as many small handheld batteries as they used to - I can see Anker putting a lot more effort into the Powerhouse batteries these days.

I own multiple cords, power banks(wired and wireless) and USB charging hubs (home and auto) from Anker and they all perform flawlessly. I would still recommend them and this recall doesn't change my mind .. Companies have faulty products from time to time, how they respond to the issue is what's important
Feel the same way. Have always had good experiences with their products and customer service. I’ve had the occasional product from them fail and each time they’ve stood behind it so I’ll remain a loyal customer. I currently have a refund coming on a set of earbuds that had one side die and am having a pleasurable experience interacting with their service staff. Glad to see them stepping up on this recall. Lithium ion batteries in general are a risk so its good when manufacturers step up when a particular trend is identified in one of their products.

I might not agree with the sentiments being shared by some about full avoidance of their products based on the issues they’ve had to date, but i totally get it.

The brand is what gets you this recall. Without the brand, you just have to throw out the battery and buy a new one elsewhere.

These brands do not produce their own battery cells. Underneath any battery pack, the cells are made by only a few manufacturers. But the difference with the better brands is the styling, support, etc.

Yea the one time I had an issue with Anker, they replaced it with a new model at no additional cost. Recently got a power bank from some unknown because of features and a good deal, but I guess it wasn't since it died in weeks, and I couldn't find anything on Amazon or their for an exchange or support.
