Annoying GS4 Quirks! Fixes?

It isn't a lie. You get the same Chrome functionality that you would get on Android in a much smoother package. Isn't that what people want in a browser? Functionality and performance?

Then do you agree that if we took the good bits of IE and put them on top of Safari, we could say that IE gets over 400 on the HTML5 test?

For issue number 8, the distortion was present with 5 different models of headphones. This includes the GS4's factory ear buds.

The issue is with the custom EQ, and more specifically the bass booster. If I disable bass boost the issue vanishes immediately.

This is a real annoying issue because I listen to music with headphones a lot and without the EQ the GS4 audio quality is a bit weak.

I'll keep digging. Anyone having a similar issue?

I just had to read "bass booster" and thats all i need to know. Just don't use EQ

either that or your music files are crap quality.

You are missing the point. This isn't about numbers, specs, or technical mumbo jumbo, despite how much you want it to be. What people want is a fast browser with good and practical functionality.

The Chrome app on iOS does all of this and runs faster than the Chrome app on Android while still offering all the same functionality that people want. It is a simple fact.

Well pretty obviously the EQ setting that is meant to boost bass is driving the bass frequencies to levels where they clip. Considering how a lot of music these days is mastered very close to clipping levels as it is, it's really no surprise that a bass booster EQ ****s things up.

Just don't use it. If you find bass lacking, get headphones that are bass heavy instead. Personally the only thing I've noticed with the GS4 audio compared to my old iPhone 4 is that the GS4 doesn't let you turn the volume up as high as there is some sort of non-defeatable "safe volume levels" thing on it. You can root and change to a firmware where that is disabled but it's a bit of a pain in the ass IMO for a small thing.

Making that kind of sweeping generalization seems both inaccurate and irrelevant to the conversation.

The what conversation? You're making a point that "nobody cares whether or not it is actually Chrome, they put the name on it and that's all the average user will care". I then point out that the average user won't be here, which is statistically true. There are over 50 million iPad users likely 1/1000 or less of those users actually comes here.

The type of people who comes here are the outlier, and we should be able to have a technical discussion that uses that knowledge.

If being a "true Chrome browser" on iOS means it running as sluggish at it does on my Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, then I am happy that Chrome on iOS is what it is.

If being a "true Chrome browser" on iOS means it running as sluggish at it does on my Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, then I am happy that Chrome on iOS is what it is.

I don't even have an iPhone.

Also, my biggest point is that we should be shouting from the rooftops that Google needs to work on Chrome. Seriously. They need to work on lower resource user and they need to make it work better on the Nexus 7 and 4 and so forth.

I suspected a couple of things, but as it turns out it was a bad DAC.

I went to Best Buy and tested every GS4 in the Samsung kiosk with two sets of headphones and none had the same issue.

So it turns out my GS4 came with a defective DAC and ear buds with a bad driver in the right ear. I exchanged it for a new one.

No biggy, sounds fine now 🙂

Bulk of issues was the result of the phone being a lemon.

My repaired S4 arrived to me today with sim reader replaced. I'd hoped Samsung would have just swapped it for a new handset it being new, but hey ho I have to settle for the repair job.

Flashed clean UK unbranded BTU Touchwiz rom via Odin - will wait until all the little issues with the 4.3 GE rom are ironed out before I go near that for the time being.

I really prefer my original white S4 over this Black Mist colour. Hate the back of this one, but will stick a spigen slim case on it anyway.
