Annoying MR community typos

If PM (for PowerMac), PB (for PowerBook), iB (for iBook), and a handful of other acronyms (FCP, etc) are acceptable ... why not ACD?

I, on the other hand, love these threads. Why? Because without fail, the person posting about how people should be more grammatically correct in their responses makes their own errors in the initial post.

For anyone tempted to start another one of these threads - by all means, please do it. And even better, split a few infinitives while you're at it.

Their are alot off typos and uncorrect grammer usage in this forum but they'res know need too loose you're cool 🙄

While we're at it, please explain WHY you cannot split an infinitive. Some grammatical rules are sensible; some are not. I cheerfully own up to being a pedant on the ones I think are sensible.
 
Well this is by far my most popular post to date, and as everyone has pointed out, I made mistakes of my own. Too bad I'm not being graded or getting paid for this, I might actually care more.

As for its and it's...

It's shows possession such as
"I have a dog and it's back leg is broken"

Its - a combo of it and is
"Its a nice day outside"


Now PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong!

I would like to correctly answer that question, but to really find the root of the issue, I think you need to go beyond my scope of understanding.

My guess - I believe the "infinitive" of a verb in many languages is one word. For example, "etre" in French meaning "to be". Therefore, if you split an infinitive in English, you are splitting a single word, in essence. That would be un-*******-forgivable.

The rule against splitting an infinitive in English seems to date back to the 19th century when there was a feeling that Greek and Latin were more pure languages than English (not surprisingly since English is a hodge podge of Greek, Latin, Saxon, Angle, Nordic, French, German etc). Since you can't split an infinitive in Latin, it was felt that you shouldn't be able to do it in formal English either. IIRC, it can be traced back to a single textbook on the English language by someone who felt strongly about the issue.

My only feeling on splitting infinitives with adverbs is where it might make the meaning ambiguous. Occasionally whether the adverb is before or after the verb can affect the meaning of the sentence since the subject for the adverb can vary. If you split the verb with the infinitive, then it might not be so clear.

You're wrong. You are officially asked to STOP trying to be the Grammar and Spelling Police, as you're clearly unqualified for the job.
 
Maybe it is too hard for non-English speaker to post. That would make them become paranoid of making mistake of their grammar.

You just successfully proved to everyone here, yet again, that you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to grammar and spelling. Majoring in English? Better study up, because right now you're failing.

And like all those threads about official posts, I'm glad an official has asked me to stop 😉 I really don't take this as seriously as it might have seemed.

Hindsight is 20/20, I wouldn't have opened this can of worms if I could go back. I am soo sorry, you don't even know, please forgive me. 🙂 And seriously, I didn't mean to annoy anyone

Doesn't a thread like this pop up every two or three months or so?

Its getting annoying to see this over and over and over again.
 
Don't worry, if someone makes a typo, someone will point it out.
Im seriously considering changing my signature back to Im not a psycho! 😱 I just play one on these forms....
Just to see how many people will "correct" me.
