I rarely use anything past Yosemite these days, but needed High Sierra for one particular internet related app.
Long story short, the Notifications annoyed me so much that I booted the HS 2012 MacBook Air into target mode, connected it to 2011 MacBook Pro running Yosemite, searched with Find Any File for anything that had 'notification' in its name and deleted the offending stuff in the 'classic Mac' style - move to Trash, empty Trash. Notifications .app, daemon, plists and so on. Around 10 files in total.
The results so far - everything seems to be stable and working as I would expect. No bleedin' reminders.
Has anyone else here have performed the similar surgery? :D

What do you use the most often, Mavericks? I'm asking because it's always interesting to see which macOS versions other members prefer.

Long story short, the Notifications annoyed me so much…

Which notifications, or what types?

I use High Sierra on my Daily Driver and the main notifications that I receive are for my emails and YouTube channel updates. Is there something that I'm missing here?

Due to some internet requirements (banking services, YouTube, some others) - Yosemite with highly customised UI.
Why Yosemite and not Mavericks?
Because:
a) It is as bad, but not much different than Mavericks.
b) There are some apps that are compiled for 10.10 that will not work in 10.9
c) It is the last OS that doesn't have SIP.

My main workhorse OS is still Snow Leopard.

Which notifications, or what types?

All of them. I don't suffer memory loss and I don't need to be reminded of anything.

Ok, thanks for replying. I knew that the reasoning would be interesting. :)

there
everyone here know i only use Mountain lion now since the system is perfect without the notifications,
as a matter of fact youtube worked better than on an ipad were i ran into problems with the ipad yesterday as video would not play in full screen mode and switch to my macbook air 2010 which played them perfectly.

as far as removing the notification folders, Bravo!
in 2025 if i return to Monterey i might execute that process!

I HAD to use a mac mini m1 Monterey Friday which was a dreadful experience,
somehow that system does not want us ta' move files from drives.
I use Sonoma on an M2 every day for work. Connect to the NAS at work via VPN and due to changes last August I copy work from the NAS to the Mac and then back to the NAS when finished. What exactly was giving you trouble in moving files?

Incidentally, my MP is on Sonoma now too…and it happens to be more updated than this M2 I am typing on right now. I have a lot of network drives attached and haven't noted any copy problems.

there

The experience was "hmmmm....really?"
oh....i defiantly was chastised for posting my experience on a Monterey forum here Saturday.

anyways,
i did not experience problems besides the file size amount was randomly was limited.
some 5 to 7 GB movies would not copy on hhd so i handbroke those
and dragged some to a ssd thumb drive.
i do remember shutting the mac mini M1 off three times to clear data.
(there was always over 50GB free on the mini) which helped.

there was not speed difference between the M1 and early intel that wowed me.
im just pleased the project worked as i have only 1 drive that is "AP2020" formatted from 3.
