Hi Guys, I'm new to Macs so not sure if this is an isolated problem but in Safari, when I highlight text and try to type over it, the cursor just stays there and blinks as I type. For instance in the search bar, if I have a search term in there already, and want to change it, I'll highlight the text from right-to-left, without clicking and as I type it just stays there. There are two ways to solve this; firstly I have to manually click after I highlight the text I want to replace, or I have to highlight from left-to-right.

I'm not sure if I am making any sense, or how to even go about correcting this problem, but I'm just trying to highlight and replace text without clicking as you would in IE or Firefox.

I hope someone understands and can offer some help. Thank you.

A couple of things ...
Safari 3 or 4?
Mouse or trackpad?

The reason I ask if you're using a mouse or trackpad is that while on my notebook it would seem that if I move my cursor up to the address bar, click on the far right of the URL and drag my cursor to the far left, if I do not basically "click" (whether tap to click or using a physical button) it seems to not register that it's time for me to type. I know that makes just as much sense as your post, but I think you may get my drift.

If you're using a mouse then I'm 100% unsure. Report back anyway (version of Safari and input devices).

Hi Jessica, yeah that's exactly what it is. It doesn't register after highlight. I have the uni-body Macbook.

In Firefox you can highlight a text and then type over it, but in Safari this isn't possible with the Macbooks at least, you have to highlight and click.

Am I making any sense? Surely there must be a way to fix this monstrosity?
