Have decided to go the iliberty route.

    Box fresh 1.1.4

Quick questions as I cant find a step by step tutorial.

I thought I read somewhere you need to have itunes running when you start the process?

I have itunes on my laptop and its all synched with my ipod, when I connect my new iphone for the first time, will it open up itunes automatically? should I leave that application running while I start to use iliberty?

Will itunes ask me any questions?

How long will the whole process take?

Do I need to tick the "Downgrade bootloader" option?

Is there an official link for iliberty to download it from?

I feel a dork asking these questions as I am sure there is a simple step by step guide somewhere, not that I can find it.

    Any help gratefully recieved!

Don't use Ziphone, I've heard of issues with it and you're right about the bootloader. Ziphone downgrades the bootloader, iLiberty and Pwnage just fake it.

Whilst researching which method to use to downgrade my iPhone (Used Pwnage btw,), I found a nice tutorial on iLiberty here.

    From the guide, in answer to your iTunes question;
"You must connect your iPhone to iTunes before opening the app. Don't worry if iTunes says its an unsupported iPhone, etc, just let it see the iPhone.
All right, double-click iLibertyX to open it. It will automatically shut down iTunes and iTunes helper when it runs, so you don't need to worry about manually doing that."

No, I don't think you need to downgrade the bootloader but can't say for certain as I haven't personally used iLiberty. However, I can't recommend enough how good the iPhone is and my experience of unlocking it was very good, the process was amazingly simple. If you're interested in Pwnage, there's a great tutorial I used. Clicky. I'd only recommend Pwnage if you're on a Mac though, heard some bad stories about the WinPwn Beta.

    Good luck.

Thanks TS, will read through that tutorial, it all seems very straightforward but its surprising the amount of people who have messed up.

I dont want to be one of them!

I'll post back on my success or otherwise once I have eaten my Chinese.

www.hackthatphone.com has great unlocking tutorials for every method. And they are very easy to follow.

ZiPhone can actually break your phone so don't use it!

i personally would have thought if you were that worried you would have continued to check this thread and tried to check all your options to prevent doing what you did.

hold down the power button and home until it shuts off, then release the power button and continue to hold the home button and see if you can get it into recovery mode. once you get than itunex should see it again and you can hit restore.
