Worked with an old valley engineer in my early career out here who was a member of the "Cupertino Homebrew Computer Club." He showed me the newletters he collected during the 70's and the UNASSEMBLED Apple I kit that he never put together. I can only imagine what that is worth.

I was under the impression that they were sold only fully assembled.

I wish I had bought an Apple 1 or 2 back in the days and kept it in a locker till today - too bad I was just a kid back then. Nothing today I can buy and keep for 30 years and get rich... or maybe the "surface" could be one day ?

The Apple II would have been a huge negative rate of return.

Most MacRumors commenters still live with mommy and daddy. Many have yet to finish college, or even high school.

Sorry I don't know about specs from an Apple 1 before I was born. Next time I'll make sure I look Wiki before I make a random comment that holds no value. Just because I didn't know the specs doesn't mean I'm uneducated, no, that's just ignorance, which you have and buy the sound of it, won't go away with you.

Rolling your own...

So who's planning to build a functional clone of the Apple 1 computer from the Briel kit? At just $149 it seems to a real steal compared to $125,000 for a broken original. ;)

It would be cool to have emulators for all those old machines, including Classic MacOS9, that run on the new machines (e.g., Mac, iPad, iPhone, etc) so that the software from the past era could be used. There were a lot of great titles that have been lost.

Classic Oregon Trail hunting is the whole point of computers.

You need to explain to them who Cat Stevens is.

:) ;) :D

Google. There is no information/content based things that old folks "have" to explain to the younger generations.

Values, etc, sure.

I get what you're saying, but if you are going to make such an argument you ought to proofread it so your comment regarding ignorance has greater merit.

sometimes i think it would be a good idea to start with the hoarder "business" ...

crazy to think with what "power" they flew to the moon back in the day o_O

All the software used by the Apollo mission's module was hardwired.

That is not true. Apple I's were sold as kits to many locally in the area. They almost got a deal with Heathkit but that never came together. Many of the kit sales where through the Cupertino Home-brew Computer Club.

In fact, the unsold, un-stuffed Apple I boards that I'm sure Woz has laying around could go for a few thousand dollars a piece if he ever decided to sell them off.

Huh. Interesting.
