Uh, ever heard of Boot Camp for Mac??

Get over yourself. Windows are not the be-all end-all machines. Best does not always equal majority market share. Otherwise Sony Beta would have overrun VHS, to name one instance. Don't be so close-minded and speak of things you obviously know nothing about.

And this is coming from a Windows user.

Yea, I know boot camp, I am surprised you would talk about running windows on a Mac. I am not close minded as stated earlier I have used both heavily and MAC blew once it will blow it again. I was working for the goverment when the MAC's were big there and we use to crash them routinely and loose lots of data. You are the one who needs to get a little experience and quit reading articles.

Hmmm... Maybe because it's UNIX Based. My University (which doesn't really use Mac's at all...) programming courses use UNIX to program on, therefore unlike Windows which isn't UNIX based I can access the UNIX servers straight away from my Mac without additional software.

Oh and for the I've can program more languages, I can program C, Obj C, C++, Java and Applescript, out the box on my Mac.

On the Physics/Stats side Matlab, SPSS and Mathematica all have Mac versions too.

On the Maths side I can also write Mathematical equation straight into Pages in LaTeX, OS X also comes with an excellent graphing program, which produces more accurate graphs than Matlab.

With any new Mac, I can run multiple OS's too, more so than a PC can, OS X, Vista, XP and <insert name of Linux Distribution here>. I can even install most UNIX/Linux software with Fink in OS X itself.

I'll grant you that Pinnacle Studio Plus looks quite good from the specs page, the price isn't bad either, however looking at the reviews on Amazon.co.uk clearly shows it to be a joke 1.5 stars . (iLife btw gets 5 stars)

Oh and on your PC can you sync your calendar/contacts with your Mobile phone with one click? And can you send text's through your phone either?

BTW What Music software do you use, iTunes?

I totally agree you should be able to do all that, problem is you still paid more. Get a UNIX window running on your machine if you need that access. What does iTunes have to do with a MAC??????????????? Oh yeah, thats how their keeping their computer division afloat. You just like to pay for things you don't use. I have used ilife on an ibook and it is not intuitive, I am not high on Pinnacle but it is just as good for a lot less money. Try and see.

Hmm.. I don't recall saying that it was perfect or it was also the be-all end-all. You just made it sound like Macs could only use MacOSX. Yes, the application is still very much in its infancy and has much room for improvement. When is that ever not the case of any new software that comes out?

You obviously have issues with Macs, and perhaps validly so since they made your work more difficult. Well, fine, use Windows if that suits you better. But don't go preaching your message of Mac-hate and calling the Mac users stupid because they don't agree with your ideology. I'd venture to say that the majority of them did their research and, perhaps have had their own bad experiences with Windows (I know I have--I can't STAND the registry to name just one of my problems) to make them choose to pay the extra money for their Mac. Honestly, the hubby used Windows for a very long time before finally switching over because he couldn't remain productive on his Sony Viao, and he's had minimal problems with his refurbed PB (most of the problems consist of MS Word crashing from time to time). So for him, the extra hundred dollars or so was completely worth it for peace of mind and better productivity. (So, yes, I DO have Mac experience--working on his PB--and also Windows and Unix and Linux--all have their good purposes.....)

So, like I said, get over yourself and go take your Mac-hating sermons somewhere else, please.

EDIT: I think one of the the things Eraserhead is trying to say is that the ease of use and increased productivity he gets from his Mac (not to mention the lack of need to buy additional apps to make his Mac compatible with other machines it interacts with) helps balance out the price difference. You talk about Macs making your life miserable because it made your work life harder. He's saying that it makes his life easier and less complicated/more seamless so it should be worth more. The things he's doing on his Mac are easier for him to do than on a Windows and require less 3rd-party software or at least have higer-quality 3rd-party software.

OK...

I did pay more for my PB than I probably could have for a comparable laptop from Toshiba or Dell (Sony would have been about the same price). Just to note though - my wife's Toshiba, purchased about 4 months after mine, tends to run slower and have problems. I have never had to deal with the slowdown that her firewall/anti-spyware/anti-virus cause. She's never been infected, but still is slow...So unless you are making min wage, the dollar cost of time makes the added expense worth it.

As mentioned, iTunes has everything to do with the Mac (well more the OS than the machine). Including being an integral part of iLife (which you do not find intuitive). I'd imagine that WMP has a lot to do with Windows. Both are emblems of how a piece of software reflects the culture of the organization. If you are arguing that the hardware is problematic, then I understand your point with regards to iTunes. But, wouldn't it be fair to compare the many driver troubleshooting issues that the traditional PC has with the few (so far I've never had an issue with any driver) that a Mac might experience?

So, yes, it is possible to enjoy a machine for very low cost, if your time is not worth much. I, however, value my free time enough that it is worth more to me than my rather costly work time. When the time value of money is compared, Windows with a PC (and the work involved) costs more than my PB. And yes, I would like the combo meal but not supersized. Thank you for taking my order.

. It's just ironic that practically every Apple hater uses iTunes and loves it and doesn't see the irony of using iTunes and hating Mac's which have a lot more similarly designed software. If you hate apple enough to come on Mac forums to troll you should at least use WMP, Winamp or Songbird.

Sorry, don't use itunes, don't feel the need to have a 30GB iPOD. My daughter has one, after it was repaired once it has been working fine. Son has a Sony MP3 works just as well, and cost less what a surprise. The world does not revolve around itunes either.

Just tell mister Foxtrot to find a new subject, I will go away.

Windows is more compatiable. period. Get over it yourself. You just keep on spending your babe. I don't have a problem with that, just give me a brake with the Foxtrot. Your time is not worth much or you wouldn't be on this site.

I suspect the irony of his own statement is lost.

Unless some other mod feels the need to delete the entire string of posts (which would be fine with me), I'll likely leave them for now as an example of why it's best to report trolls, not feed them. :)

BTW, what OS are you using on the PCs that you build? What software/applications are you using? Did you factor the price of these in your $600 cost? Bet not.
Sorry to quote myself here, but never saw an answer from the OP.

I have found that most of the box makers that I know, will bootleg their Windows OS software and most other applications as well.

But just looking at Windows XP Professional w/SP2. It costs about $300.

So if I build a PC from scratch for $600, I must add $300 to that for Windows XP so my computer really costs $900.

Yes, I can run other OS on my PC such as Linux, but how many gamers do that? Most games run under Windows XP so they need a copy.

When you take into account what a PC really costs to build, including purchased software, the price is not near as cheap as they would like you to believe.

Why would a MAC be more suited for programming/physics?

The only possible area that MAC has an advantage over a PC is there video editing software and my Pinnacle software's recent HD releas took that advantage away. I program in Visual Basic, C. Admit you boys just paid too much. Bottom line. End of Story. Thats why the majority of the world is using PC's. So why does mr foxtrot have an axe to grind with. Get off of it that is all I am saying.

As far as the comment about making Mr. Gates rich, I think someone is getting confused over operating systems and hardware. I can run several operating systems on my PC, I am not limited to MacOS.
Poor child hasn't done his homework.. Final Cut Pro HD, Xcode.. BOOT CAMP.

i bet they cvould be made into classy, minimalist wallpapers. i may give that a go for July Desktops. :)
I do that from time to time. I have a folder where I keep all my cartoons, and just Change Pictures from that folder every 5 minutes, with the cartoons Center and all White background. Usually keep it for a couple of weeks at the time, i.e. until I've read all the cartoons at least a couple of times... :)

I detect several metric tons of jealousy from the troll lab. Peecee's are as generic as paper clips, so why would a talented cartoonist waste their time on his characters going to the (insert generic computer outlet name here) store and pretending to drool over the bargain bin hardware. If such a cartoon existed, the troll would likely paste it to the front fender of his coaster brake bicycle.
I have wasted my life by responding to this troll. adamskc1 must lead a pathetic existence (nearly as pathetic as mine for replying!). I use windows at work (not by choice) and have 2 iMacs at home. Some will say to each their own, but I will say "Once you go (OSX) Mac, you won't go back". My system has never crashed, never gotten a bug, never hit a slowdown, never done anything less than whatever I needed it to. Compared with the constant need to work on my system so that it would run my apps and manage my files that was / is required as part of my Microsoft experience, I would be vehemently opposed to being convinced that I paid too much for either of my Apple systems. So adamskc1, go sell your hate scheme somewhere else. What is it worth to have a system that works, instead of a system that requires you to work on it to get it to run? I don't know of anyone who has a Dell / Compaq / HP tattoo. Do you? Why does the brand loyalty Apple has cultivated cause such outrage in those who have yet to make the switch? Grow up and quit playing with kit box computers containing inferior OS's. BTW, What exactly do you use your computer for?

Sorry.... I couldn't help myself with that one. I don't get into heated debates very often (unless it's with a horrible customer service rep), but for some reason I just had the need to vent on that one.

Well, you done good. ;) What ever it is, I'll doubt he'll ever get over it at that rate. In several years of forum participation on various sites, I've seen few like this who were so blatantly obnoxious.

It's a good life lesson though, not to argue with people who don't like Macs/Apple, they're entitled to their view however wrong it may be...;)

Actually, the issue at hand had very little to do with content (Apple or Micro$oft, OS's and the like) and one's preference. It had to do with poor form and the lack of courtesy with deference. Diversity in preference seldom seems to be squelched in the majority of threads and posts here, imo.

I agree with your point though not to argue. That's where the "report bad post" to Mod function comes in handy. :)

I love Foxtrot. You can count on something related to Apple once a week.

I also have the Foxtrot Widget. The picture could be bigger though.

It was so freakin' small and I couldn't read so I had to open it in safari, boy it sure is bigger now. I think there should be a way to resize the comic strip in widget, anyone?
