Another "I dropped my powerbook.." story.

*grin* I've dropped my PowerBook Pismo three times over the past five years. Once while it was running. All from about chest height (4'). Call me butter fingers! Fortunately it has never suffered any damage and keeps on computing. Not even a scratch. My heart probably incurred about 10 years of damage each time... :} The Pismos are built like a proverbial tank - Wish they still made them like that.

Eh fine. I'll post some pics.

The first pic is of the dent, the next is the normal side when closed (the left), and the last one is the right side showing it doesn't close down all the way.

i see that it's a little dented in the area where the plastic meets the metal on the left and right sides of the computer, but i have seen worse from 17 inch powerbooks right out of the box. they are warped in general, go to the applestore and check for yourself. all in all, i think you fared much better than most ppl who drop their pbooks.

Power book lids close all the way??

My PB cover is up on one side - not flush down on both sides. I always accepted this as it just came that way new. Do most folks have PB lids that don't have one side that lifts up a little??

powerbook in collision with truck today

...well, the door of a truck.
I was cycling to work, with my 15in powerbook in my messenger bag (inside sleeve), and had the dreaded 'vehicle door opens in front of me' scenario. Luckily for me, it was a large truck, the door was high, and my reflexes made me duck under......but my bag wasn't so lucky and ...the end result was a pretty bent case (banana comes to mind)
Amazingly, after forcing it back into shape (more or less), it works fine (fingers crossed)
The only real problem is that the very thin strip of aluminium above the release catch must have stretched a bit, so as it was re-shaped, that little strip buckled quite badly. I think I may have to cut out a short piece of it and re-stick.

unfortunately, i don't have a picture of the banana shaped powerbook, but my work colleague witnesses were astounded that the machine was still functioning
I had been considering getting Applecare, but now I'm concerned that any future hardware problems may be assigned to the very obvious collision damage? any thoughts?

This thread makes me want to get a 12" iBook for outside duties while travelling or on the road even though I have 3 PBs (except for my 12" PB, both 15" PBs are perched on iCurve on my desks at home). I am very very careful with my 12" PB when I take it with me while I travel. To keep my sanity, maybe I should get an iBook so that I don't have to worry too much about protecting the PB (the iBook is said to be very sturdy as its outer case is made of durable plastic). I am itching to drive 10 miles to an Apple Store t get an iBook now.
