I apologize in advance. I know there are so many posts about keyboards already. I'm just trying to find out if anyone has found a solution for the ASK constantly disconnecting. I'm using a iPad Pro, 12.9, Gen 2, iOS 11.3 with a ASK. This is my second keyboard since I bought it new in November last year. The first one was fine for about a couple months, then started constantly disconnecting. I went to local Apple store. Folks there were very helpful (not the most knowledgeable). Ended up doing a factory reset and renamed iPad but kept same Apple ID. Set it up as new device. Apple gave me a new keyboard and all went well until about two weeks ago. I'm again having constant disconnect problems. I like the convenience of the keyboard always with me even if I don't use it for everything but the connection problem is no good. I've ordered a Smart cover and will go without the physical keyboard until Apple comes up with a fix. I use SwiftKey for onscreen Keyboard. Great keyboard, especially the swipe function. Use it for years on Android. A lot more options to customize the keyboard on Android but works well on iOS.

If the disconnects are only happening when you log onto a public wifi system that requires you to click through a landing page (like Starbucks/ McDonalds/ etc), then you can hit Command-Tab to bring up the app switcher & for some reason this resets the connection on the ASK (at least on my 9.7 Pro). Not sure what one has to do with the other, but it has been working reliably for me for months now. If it happens at other times as well, then I have no other ideas.

Thank you but I don't use public WiFi. I have a great Hotspot on my iPhone 7 plus or I use my work one and of course home. I've tried the Cmnd>Tab but nothing comes up. I resigned myself to the onscreen Keyboards. One issue I won't miss with ASK is the numbness I get in the type of my fingers after prolonged typing.

I had a 2015 12.9 that kept disconnecting. Ended up buying a different iPad, 2015 12.9. It works flawlessly with the keyboard that wouldn't work on the first one, as well as the keyboard it came with. I know people think it's the software, but this was before iOS 11. I believe it's the iPad itself. I'm sorry if that's the case. I don't know if Apple would let you take your keyboard in and try it on another iPad.

My keyboard has been finicky with its connection from day one. All I have to do is shift its position slightly along the bottom of the iPad to get the pins and magnets to align better. For me a 1mm shift of the keyboard to the right does it.

I agree that its the iPad itself. when i was in the Apple store they actually connected my original ASK to a demo iPad Pro in the store and it worked fine. That was just after seeing it not work on my iPad.

I do the same but NO ONE should have to do that to keep the connection to their keyboard especially after paying good money for it. It’s embarassing when I am with a client, filling in an investment application and I have to keep lifting up my keyboard to reconnect.

Off subject, Muzzy996, where you on Android Central forums before? Name sounds familiar. It may be from this forum that I remember your name. I’m older and everything seems to blend into one anymore LOL. The 60s were very good to me

Perhaps it is a combination of factors. My 1st gen 12.9 Pro (now running iOS 11.3) and ASK (both purchased over 2 years ago) have been trouble-free. Even the ASK has physically held up even though I used it nearly every day during that time.

Could it be an issue with newer batches of the ASK? Maybe with the 2nd gen iPP?

Have you had the opportunity to try the opposite? Take your iPP and attach it to one of the demo ASKs?

No I haven’t tried that but its a good idea. Apple store is only 10 minutes from my house. I’m typing with it now and have no problems. Something that just came to mind. If i wipe off the keyboard (dust etc..) and try to use it, I have to reconnect, so maybe its confusing the iPad with too many key inputs at once so it disconnects! As i type I do occasionally hit (fat finger) multiple keys. Ill have to track that and see if that is when it disconnects.
